Personally, I missed the David Haye hypetrain. I don't think it made many stops in the US. When I look at him fight, I see a one trick pony. They guy runs, waits for an opening to land quick, big, sloppy, off balance pot shots, then goes back to running. That's it. His whole game plan. Hardly an elite level fighter, even if he is ripped and talks mass **** to the media. Toney, on the other hand, has an amazing ring IQ, is fearless (or stupid) and has fantastic boxing skills. Of course he is NOT shredded, is 42 and hasn't had a big fight in a long time. I still think that, while it will never happen because a loss to Toney would completely ruin Haye, Toney would outbox and probably KO Haye inside 12. Thoughts?
Today's James Toney v.s Haye would end in 250 plus pounds of lard hitting the deck. Haye is too fast and hit's way too hard for Toney. Plus Haye would have a considerable height and reach advantage. Toney would get knocked the **** out. Now the James Toney of 2004-06 would have a good chance at beating Haye imo. 50/50 fight. Say what you want about Haye but the guy hits hard and fast. And also has good reflexes and head movement. I really wouldn't care who wins this because I don't like either fighter ...but it would be interesting to watch.
I wouldn't rule it out even today (though it's unlikely). He could completely out-think and skill Haye...but I don't know how much that body has left... A prime Toney HW or Cruiserweight? Perrlease. Toney takes Haye to school.
Slacker is a dumb ass. Haye would beat today's Toney. You're judging Hayes boxing techique by one sloppy fight against one of the greatest heavyweight of this era. You obviously haven't seen his other fights, you're just a hater who is butthurt about David's boxing persona.
Prime for prime Toney schools him. Haye throws his wild right Toney rolls with it and counters with a straight right everytime....... Today if Toney got his weight down to at least 230 then Haye would probably be too fast for him and Toney wont be able to capitalize on his mistakes and loses a UD. Although James could pull it out. Haye has never fought a fighter like Toney.
your options on the poll do not have the one I would pick. Haye would beat Toney now. and before? Well Haye would always beat him at cruserweight and heavyweight. I don't find that in your poll.
James Toney couldn't even beat Samuel Peter. The old Toney wouldn't even have broken a sweat picking Peter apart. Prime for Prime isn't even worth discussing. But the current version of Toney. Not sure but I would incline to lean towards Haye. Reluctantly.
