just saw Toney vs Barkley and damn was James a good fighter, so slick, popping jab, combos on point. just boxing at its high art.

would he haved beaked Ward's defence and scored enough to win.

chin & power definitly on Toney's side. physical strength, height etc. prety even.

I wouldnt say that the Froch fight is Ward's best, he is still developing.

But judging by Wards current skillset Il still have to give the nod to James Toney, ALTHOUGH the fight is stylistically very difficult for Toney

I would depend on which Toney showed up back then he would come in out of shape at time. In shape focused Toney win, the other toney loses. Truthfully I think Toney's defense was better than Floyds, I only remember him taking a couple of clean shots one against RJJ the other against Sam Peter.

Ward all day, Toney is one of the most overrated fighters of all time.

Also if he takes the test he's going to get his ass kicked :deal

Ward has exactly the right style to give Toney problems. Totally different than Barkley.
But c'mon, Toney, on that night, was on top of his game - maybe his best night ever. And, in that shape, one of the very best SMWs ever. He was just so good, such slick movements, intelligent boxing, seeing everything. And don't forget Toneys handspeed - he displayed it against Barkley, fast combinations that would get through Wards defence too. Ward can't hurt Toney, and I guess Toney would have fought a bit more aggressive against Ward (many people forget that Toney could fight coming forward too). I can see Toney winning a clear UD here.

thats way I picked a prime toney vs ward, because ward would normaly technicly overwhelm toney. maybe not by an margin, but as good as toneys reflexes were he still had his guard down and did get punched. ward would have explioted this big time, but like we said, toney on that night was truly dangerous for anybody around and at that weight.

ahhhhh never though of this match up... Toney via SD.... this one is a counter fest... Toney counters better and is very slick.. so I give him the nod.. Ward is slick too but is still there to get hit by Toney....

the thing is. ward seems to need more time, to time his punches. in countering he may be as fast as toney, but overall prime toney seems to have an edge on overall timing, also he has more variation of punches.

Toney's defence leaked punches, he got hit alot (not flush), Toney is a better counter puncher than Ward and maybe more skilled, but ward can vary his offence more, like it or not is better at dirty boxing using his head

50/50 but have to go with toney since seen more of him fight, ward might yet improve

    Toney gets overrated,

The Toney who fought Barkley would even have given prime Roy Jones all he could handle.

That Toney wins a decisions against Ward.
