I think thats ridiculous. I cant see him being ranked lover than 6. I always thought Toney disliked Mike. It was in an interview i read. Anyway strange that James gave him props
Toney and Mike got on fine. They used to go to strip-clubs together at one point,if you can imagine that ****ing debicle.
I think #2 is being very, very generous. A bit too generous in fact. I can see a reasonable argument made for him being rated around 6-8, but a case for top 3 is beyond my capabilities.
they are both bad boys , it would of been funny if they got together in a match back 4 years ago , Toney trying to trash talk and Tyson getting all abusive aswell .
Yeah, I am. There was serious respect there, although there was so much machismo involved they would never really say nice things about each other. It was like nobody could decide who was the man and who was the homeboy.
"Mike's a better tipper, but he usually tries to finger you. If you dance for James, never rub the top of his head because he'll go crazy, shouting about 'mad disprespect' and then Mike goes crazy too."
Toney was talking about a match with Mike even before the Jones fight. It would have been the absolute pinacle of trash-talking in boxing. It would have been like when Clint Eastwood made Unforgiven and nobody made westerns for about a decade - everybody would be really polite to each other at press conferences for the next fifteen years because everybody would know - the perfect trash-talk hat happened, no sense trying to top it.
and cant imagine mike n toney hanging out. two different personalities, toney wouldnt allow mike to be top dog even if he were the HW champ n toney a middleweight. mike doesnt have the alpha male persona
Tyson at 2 is a spot or two high but it isn't ridiculous. Head to Head he is at the very top, he gets crapped on too much. about the Toney-Tyson strip club story. Never heard that before.
I can see the argument both ways. Mike Tyson arguably could have been the greatest heavyweight ahead of Ali, Louis, Johnson, Dempsey and Marciano, which more often are considered the universal top 5. Say what you want, but I've seen more consistent top five all time lists with these five fighters, usually starting with Ali. On occasion, I've seen Holmes, Lennox Lewis, Foreman and Frazier occupy one of the top five spots replacing one of the earlier fighters mentioned. Mike Tyson based on potential has more could-have-been acknowledgement on this forum as opposed to what he actually did in his career. I can clearly see a case for him in the top five because, he WAS that explosive during his early years with D'amato and Teddy Atlas. Regardless of the vast opinions on Tyson's quality of opposition, there's no denying the fact that he was destroying everyone put in front of him with frightening regularity. One argument that supports Tyson being with the top five is the fact that his atheletic gifts are often compared to the greatest fighters who exude the qualities that made them great. #1 Tyson's handspeed is often compared to Ali and Floyd Patterson as two of the fastest of all time. #2 Tyson's power, especially his right has been repeatedly compared to Foreman, Liston and Shavers, who without much dispute are the hardest punchers in heavyweight history. #3 His left hook has been compared to Frazier's who was recognized by many having the best left hook in heavyweight history. The argument against Tyson IMO stems from the fact that he didn't face several challengers in his absolute prime and like Ali, he was jailed for three years during these most formative years. He fought Lennox Lewis and Holyfield way too late in his career. He never fought Riddick Bowe or Michael Moorer, even though both parties are responsible for not making those fights happen. I rank Tyson in the top 10, after Foreman, Frazier, and Larry Holmes, but ahead of Lennox Lewis and Holyfield.
