How do you guys think James Toney and Roy Jones Jr would've done in the 1950's heavyweight division with fighters much more there size. Both guys were able to capture world titles in the early 2000's as heavyweights, Toney put together a number of wins against top heavyweights who were naturally much bigger. Do you think these two would've been able to fit right in the mix with talented but smaller heavyweights like themselves in the 50's such as Marciano, Charles, Walcott, Moore, and Patterson.

I think it would of been harder for Jones stylistically against smaller heavyweights where he wouldn't have the same speed advantage that he had over Ruiz.

Also, Toney’s lack of conditioning would have hurt him more against faster smaller heavyweights.

Exactly! For him the problem could be the other way round depending on what sort of shape he was in.

roy jones chin wouldnt do him much good against walcott charles marciano his speed may of been outdone by patterson.

toney on the other hand would be in the ring with guys with as much skills and more power but less toughness.
toney is tough in any era i dont care what anyone says,

Though Toney didn't appear to be in good condition especially as a heavyweight he was very comfortable in the ring which is allowed him to fight a good a pace and not show his fatigue. I doubt stamina would be much of an issue for him perhaps in a 15 round war it may play a factor

They'd have done as well as Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, and Floyd Patterson.

Toney fares better, his relaxed style, smooth counter punching style and granite chin gives him a chance to be very competitive against most 50's heavies. Jones only fought Ruiz at heavy and seeing how his chin turned out once his gifts eroded leads me to believe that his talent would win him some fights but the naturally bigger heavies who could compete with him in speed (Charles, Patterson) or time him (Ingo, Moore) would probably lead him to some brutal losses.
