Tyson would beat the living daylights out of Toney as would Bowe. Funnily enough, i was thinking about how a prime HW Toney vs Prime Holyfield would go. Lewis would damage Toney as well. This is the same Toney who was outboxed by Sam Peter. Peter even hit Toney with a triple jab and then did the Ali shuffle in the 12th round.
James Toney's story about being a natural heavyweight all along was just some way of rationalizing his obvious over-eating and chronic steroid use.
That's an oversimplification and can't be said to sum up his "entire" career. Yes he was a steroid user who wasn't especially devoted to training, particularly in his later years. But that man was exceptionally good at Middle weight, Super middleweight and at least established himself as being competitive at everything above... Definitely an ATG in my book.
He's been busted at least twice. He tested positive after the fight with Danny Batcheldor too. The fact that he's been caught at all suggests that his PED use was at a high dosage and good old fashioned anabolic steroids rather than anything smart or designer, because it's really not difficult to pass those testing procedures that were in place. He was doing basic steroids right up to fight time, and I assume he did drugs in his other heavyweight fights. Just look at his physique change. In the Holyfield fight he was 'roided to the gills for sure, and people are more interested in Holyfield's alleged use.
Tubbs was a strapping 6 foot 3 and 235-240. Toney was middling 5 foot 9 and just about the same weight (233-234) when he fought Peter.
