Don't really know to to title this but imagine how good james Tony's legacy would be if he was promoted by golden boy or matchroom and he got the privilege from them by just getting that extra bit of help on the cards look how many close losses and draws he had how would we remember him with a few of them too nods and especially not flagging up for drugs cause clenelo and juiceusha are allow (not a hate or troll thread just a thought )
I'm a little peeved at the classic forum for only ranking him like 97 p4p all time. He won titles from middleweight to heavyweight the same as Bob Fitzsimmons who's balls you can never get out of their mouths and who they ranked in the top 10. What he's done is at least as impressive as his contemporaries Jones Jr and Hopkins, who a lot of people place in the top 30-50.
Toney was always his own worse enemy and he’s viewed by most as an ATG. Toney was a natural born fighter that was always going to do things his way and consequences be damned.
Why are you also labelling Canelo and Joshua as drug cheats, when only one has been convicted, and the other is tested more than anyone in the sport? Joshua has 365 day random testing by WBA and UKAD..... Canelo refuses VADA testing.
Regarding Joshua, it’s called the eye test colliding with common sense. And the whole, “Most Tested Athlete” title was used by Lance Armstrong and that didn’t turn out so great...
Fat Toney was one of the last truly great old school fighters IMO,. He fought everyone, including the much avoided McCallum three times. He got clowned by RJJ once and took Burger King more seriously than his boxing, but the man had skills, power and an absolute granite chin. Do you rank him based on his best performance, IE what he could have been, or an average of all his performances?
Toney without doubt could have used the clenbuterol edge to shave off those pounds. He might have been much better.
Toney is definitely up there as one of the best naturally born fighters. For me Toney could have done more if it wasn't for his lack of dedication.
