Please let this be true. Seeing Toney get grounded and pounded would be pleasurable to watch...bloodied, semi ******ed and being stretchered out of the arena is about the only thing which would deflate that fat idiots ego.
Coutour is slippin and when you think about it Liddell was able to dominate Coutour with nothin but a country sprawl and some backwoods hayemakers. What will Toney do to him? KO.
Liddell didnt really use his sprawl well though. In the 1st fight Couture hit every takedown he attempted, 2nd fight he attempted none and got knocked out early in the 1st, in the 3rd fight Couture took Liddell down easily with a double and although he couldnt keep Liddell down he controlled him in a double postion agianst the fence until the round ended. Besides Liddell was a 4 year starter on his college wrestling team. Toney can train hard as he wants but will never gain the wrestling ability that Liddell has especially in just a couple of months. It took Mirko Cro Cop several years to develop a great sprawl coming out of K-1. Couture just took down Mark Coleman one of the great amateur wrestlers of his time, mounted him and choked him out. I seriously doubt a chubby Toney with no grappling skills can stop him from doing that unless he KOs before Randy closes the distance or grabs a leg.
Boxers need to stay on their feet in a fight. Wrestlers focus a lot of time and training to get an opponent off his feet and in a disadvantagous position. Toney can win if he can win a one punch fight and even for a skilled boxer a one-punch KO is rare. Couture wins it.
Spot on. Toney is not and never has been a big puncher even when he fought as low as 160/168. He is not a murderous puncher like a David Haye, prime Mike Tyson, Julian Jackson etc etc. I would be very surprised if Toney could beat Couture. Lets not forget that Toney is old and washed up as a top level boxer these days. Couture is still much closer to his good level of fighting than Toney is and Couture is the MMA fighter. It's a massive ask for Toney to even be competitive let alone think he could win.
If Toney learns good takedown defense like say Cung Le's, then he will easily beat Randy Couture. If he doesn't learn takedown defense then he wont win. I'd be shocked if he can fight on the ground, but who knows? Maybe he knows MMA and has been training MMA for years.
They're trying to make as much money on Toney as they can, not develop him into an mma fighter. They pick Couture so that he can headline a PPV which always makes money, then when Couture dominates Toney they can say it's because of Couture's awesome skill and experience. That allows them to let Toney fight someone else, maybe someone in the middle of the pack at 205. When he loses that they can make the same sort of excuse. Then, in a third fight they can have him fight some beginner or washed up old fighter and then when he loses they'll release him. Starting him this high up allows a much longer time before he is recognized to be at the bottom. Besides, who would they put him in with who would be as lousy on the ground as he certainly is? Any mma fighter good enough to make it to the UFC will be able to take Toney down and beat on him or sub him, so this route is really their only option. Cynical of DW and the rest, but a smart way to make $$$$$$.
dana white trying to cash in all his chips at once. hoping to get some sort of PPV record. Even if he does, it will be b/c a boxer was involved, not two ufc fighters. They need boxing stars to get people to actually watch their events in droves of numbers. this will be a sad sight to behold for sure. Toney will lose via ground and pound, it will be ugly, and than all MMA lovers will declare MMA>boxing. This whole thing is ******ed. If they had given toney a few fights to get accustomed to mma fighting, it would be a different story, but coture right off the bat???? come the **** on. Goes to show that dana white truly hates boxing.
