Apparently, James Toney has an offer to fight Tony Thompson in April on ESPN. Toney needs to understand that he won't get the fight against Vitali until he beats a notable heavyweight. Tony Thompson is a notable heavyweight. Dan Goossen offered him the fight but apparently for some reasons (money, IBA belt) Toney does not seem to be inclined to accept it. In my opinion this is s a good opportunity to get back into the hunt.Toney is not happy that he can't defend his meaningless IBA belt but Goossen is right when he says that this not well seen by the WBA and WBC organisations. The IBA belt is meaningless and the Klits and Haye are the champ, James seems to be a bit dellusional, he should fight Thompson end of story. I made the thread the other day but in all honesty Toney can't sit there and ***** about the Klits if he is not willing to step it up himself.
now if fat ass toney goes to the ufc and starts kicking ass, it will tell you exactly where mma stands, because as an elite boxer toney is finished but still has skill enough to fight C level fighters, so at this stage in his career and age if he goes over there and after a few fights starts to dominate them guys.
james stated claerly that he will box as and when he can nothing to stop him as well hes unhappy with goosen not getting him fights
I agree, Thompson would beat Toney. That's why Toney's plan was to talk himself into a title shot straight away. Now that this is not happening, his options are very limited.
Exactly. The fight was discussed before, as much as half a year earlier i think. Thompson has the exact wrong style for Toney: high workrate, not a lot of power but enough to score points, tall, hard to land on, etc.
He wont fight a live body to earn a title shot thus the need to run to the media with junior high insults like calling another man a ***** in hopes of a title shot. James is done as a boxer.
Toney should stop talking and complaining and get back into the ring asap. For those who followed Toney's career it is quite obvious that he never gets title fights the easy way. Toney always had to beat big names or win eliminator's to enforce the champions to face him. It's no different with Klitschko's: why should they face the tricky Toney if they have other options who are a lot less risky? Toney clearly has to impose himself by beating a legit contender in spectacular fashion. Also, Toney HAS disappointed his loyal fans in recent months by his unwillingness to step back into the ring. He should stop talking about his garbage IBA belt, a title which doesn't mean anything in the boxing world. At this point, James has to take it on all corners to fullfill his lofty goal to realize his goal to compete for the hw title one last time. He needs to get back to training and fight Thompson!
I really agree. Toney wants to fight a boxing match in April and MMA fight in summer. Tony Thompson is one of the most credible opponents out there and would really be a big step towards securing a bout with Vitali. Toney's loyal fans have to be disappointed, what happened to lightsout motto: anybody, anywhere, anytime.
