Actually it's not that hard to cover up, lead with a low leg kick and rush into Toney's chest where Couture can secure an upper body clinch and throw Toney on his head.

 

19-16 for Couture at the moment...

I don't get it. Couture isn't exactly well known for fighting off of his back but even if Toney lands and drops Couture, if Couture isn't OUT and Toney follows him into his guard it could be big big trouble for Toney...

I am really shocked to see so many people picking Toney in this fight. Haven't we all learned anything from MMA? Honestly, I would pick a big strong college wrestler with ZERO MMA experience to beat James Toney if he formulated a gameplan.

anyone who picks toney doesnt have clue, he has a chance maybe ten % being generous but thats it

 

So basically this is the way I see it.

For Toney to be effective, he needs to land within range fast and hard and accurately.

For Couture to employ his wrestling, he will not likely shoot from the outside but engage in a clinch and try to dirty box Toney until he can grab hold and take him down. In order to do this, he must be close in range, and open to shots on the inside which Toney has all but mastered.

With outside shoots being more easily stuffed and timed, it seems Toney has a good chance of employing his masterful inside-fighting experience and outstrike Couture up close. While Couture has the clear advantage, it boggles my mind how some people say Toney has 0 chance up close against an opponent striking on the inside standing up before any sort of ground game can be attempted by his opponent.

 

+1 (kinda) Sure, Randy is a Greco guy and that means in MMA he usually operates the best out of the clinch and dirty boxing, pressing guys up against the cage, and looking for short shots or a takedown from the clinch. I think in the clinch Toney poses a real threat because he can throw really good really short punches. He can throw punches up close that Randy has never encountered before and it really could take only one punch to hurt Randy and give Toney the fight.

All of that said, I don't actually think Randy is going to wade in and look for a clinch against Toney. Even if he says that is what he is looking at, and even if that is in fact his strongest area in MMA, I think he will shoot for a double. Even if he doesn't have the best double in MMA I am sure it is more than good enough to dump Toney on his ass.

 

Toney came in at a career high 237, looks like he is going to tank the fight.

 

Couture by submission either a basic side front arm to the neck choke or a guillotine...

Arm triangle is what I expect and I expect Toney to be a hero and pass out. Guillotine is possible but usually Guillotines come in some sort of scramble or when in this case Toney shoots and that isnt happening. After the takedown that Randy gets I expect some punches, short elbows, easy guard pass to mount and Randy punching some more but Toney is tough and knows how to defend himself and I dont expect Randy to risk going for an armbar and losing his postion. I see a armtriangle or RNC and Toney passing out like Coleman did and Randy having to use his feet to shove a lifeless body off him.

war toney and thats nothing against mma , im not a fan but im happy to let you people get on with it , i just hate that is been marketed as "boxing vs mma " for a start its not because its in a cage and with mma rules and second james toney is so far past his best that its not even funny.

i know coture is old aswell but hes in shape and looked after himself , no doubt he is past his best aswell but he doing what hes made a cerear out off
