Agreed Toney by SD. Some might bring up the Johnson and Griffin fights.I thought Toney won those fights.
Sumbu could have James frustrated to make it a very close run thing, I'll go with the above. Toney split Dec.
This. I remember seeing the top 10 ranking in '91 @ 160. Never saw a division so stacked before! So many great fighters, but so many great fights never happened.
Toney should win, but his discipline at Middleweight was very poor at times, thus as mentioned, it is a close fight. Toney 7/5
Kalambay by decision. He's too slick to stand in the pocket with James and would make Toney come to him all night long. Tony would be outhustled.
Yeah, Toney never looked good as against slick movers, and they didn't come much better at MW than Sumbu. Man what a joy to watch he was. The sheer beauty of what he did in the ring makes it hard to believe it's something as brutal as boxing.
While it is not unreasonable to argue that Kalambay wins a close one, you do not outhustle an in shape Toney. It is a myth which is entirely based on the Tiberi fight where Toney was a dead man. In his other losses against Griffin, Toney actually threw more punches. Anyway, your pick is no surprise because you consisitently pick against Toney
Toney was a more aggressive fighter at MW and threw more punches. This would be a really close fight. Toss up fight for me.I’ll slightly favor Kalambay due to his jab and mobility. Both guys were beautiful to watch in the ring and this fight would be a boxing purists dream match. Toney vs McCallum 1 & 2 and McCallum vs Kalambay 2 were some of the best pure boxing matches, so I can imagine Toney vs Kalambay being a highly entertaining chess match as well.
