An old Carl Thompson could do it at a lighter weight, why not Toney.

He didn't have Toney's boxing ability either.

Toney has much better defence AND a cast iron chin :huh

I know he's shot to ****, but with a chin as weak as Haye's anything can happen. Don't forget Toney was one of the best counter punchers the sport has ever seen.

Any prediction that rests on the premise that David Haye now is the same fighter that lost to Thompson is seriously flawed.

Same as the people that predicted Cotto would knockout Pacquiao with a bodyshot because Singsurat did.

never out of shape a day in his life , ex wbo Cruiserweight champ in David Hayes 11th ( yes 11th !!!! ) pro fight

I'd pick Thompson over Griffin any day !!!!!

yes BUT..can toney take a shot from a guy who has a near 90% ko rate at both cruisers + heavyweight?
can toney live with hayes speed?
Haye remember is not the same fighter and he is also a counter puncher by nature..at this stage of there careers a much faster one that toney!

I'm not saying he will, but it's possible. Haye's chin did not improve since then, ca c'est certain.

Yes he can, he took bigger shots.

    That's the big question.

No question about his speed, I just don't rate Haye's boxing ability very high.

Id say his chin has improved..Valuev although not a huge puncher connected with several shots and it didnt stun or hurt him.

remember haye is a natural heavyweight..he has said it himself!

I didn't see any solid flush punch land by Valuev, and as you said Valuev is not a big puncher. On top of that he's slow as ****, and the ones that hurt the most are the ones you don't see coming.

Toney isn't exactly fast any more either, but a counter punch is harder to see than the predictable **** Valuev brought to the table.

I don't care much what Haye says, he's a loudmouth. According to that logic Toney is the best HW out there, he said so himself. A natural HW, I don't think so, he bulked up quite a bit.

That would be fine if it were Haye's chin that was the problem then. But it wasn't, he was stopped on his feet. It was his stamina, discipline, training and ability to adjust during a fight that were the problems and all of those have improved greatly.

Toney is down to 215, his lightest/same weight when he fought Holyfield.
