It's not silly at all. Jones won fairly easily. Jones is the only 168 in the division's history who was better h2h than Ward. It would be a 9/3 type of fight for Ward.
Roy won due to his incredible speed and his unorthodox style. You can’t make comparisons like that. It’s how they’d have matched up stylistically. Toney beat Nunn, Roy beat Toney with absolute ease, yet Nunn would have given Roy a nightmare. Ward is a great fighter. I was one of his biggest fans. But what Roy did was irrelevant here. The best versions of Andre Ward at SMW, would not have scored a 9-3 win over the switched on and motivated versions of James who’d beaten Littles and Barkley. If you evaluate all of the available evidence, it’s pretty easy to predict that it would have been a close fight.
Nunn would have been a very difficult fight for Roy. They’d have gone feint for feint with each other. Andre Ward wasn’t as skilful as Mike McCallum. If it’d have been the best version of James, where he’d have been fully fit, fighting to his full capabilities, Andre would have had his hands full. Andre wasn’t particular fast, so it would have been a very technical fight. He couldn’t have jumped in and out of range like how Roy did. It’s got a close decision win written all over it. Andre was great. But not great enough to beat James by 9 rounds to 3.
Nobody beat Tony easily when he was prime. You have this opinion because Ward can move laterally. Like Toney couldn't adapt. LOL Ward could win, but not easily.
I thought Ward would school Kovalev instead he went life and death (and lost). Not sure just how "great" Ward was. Toney was horribly inconsistent so he would probably underperform and lose.
Well Toney could win and he was a monster on a good night but i wouldn't count ward out and this is 168 Ward.
Jones was Jones. Plus very different styles. Jones's speed made it impossible for Toney to catch Jones. I don't think Toney would have that problem with Ward.
