Canelo is nowhere near proven at 168lbs he lost 2 fights with GGG at middle. How is he then going to be on the level of JC Ward or Jones at super middle?

Back on topic I like Tony in this although he gets slagged off for losing to average fighters however this is a hypothetical H2H and therefore prime.

Wards ability to bumrush using his head on the shorter Tony will not work. It will be a messy fight with some fouling but I would expect Tony to edge it out on points Tony might even have Dre on wobbly legs during an exchange or two but both men see the last round.

I'm pretty sure Tony murders ginger at 168 lbs. Tony can hit hard and also had a granite chin.

Although would get robbed by the judges unless Tony could actually stop him.

Toney was great on his best day but horribly inconsistent.

That's why I qualified it in the above post. On a good day though he is a handfull for nearly everyone..

Although people bring up the Jones fight I simply state that Jones during that time is the most physically gifted athelete I've ever seen in a boxing ring and would clown pretty much anyone I can think of just on physical ability alone.

So this would be Tony from the McCallum / Nunn / Barkley / Jirov fights.

I’d lean Ward hes mentally tougher, he’ll be better prepared, and has the tools he needs.

I remember seeing a prime James Toney and he was a monster, incredible talent. He lacked discipline at times but at his best, he was the goods. Assuming both guys are prime abs at the top of their game, Toney beats the dog**** out of Ward. He frustrated me as a fighter because he was so skilled, he could have been an ATG. A prime focused and in shape Toney would be trouble for any middleweight or super middleweight. No way Ward would be able to wrestle, foul and cheat his way to a victory over prime Toney.

Prime RJJ embarrasses Ward, doesn’t lose a round. It wouldn’t take many rounds for him to spark Ward. He was better in every area.

James Toney from the Barkley fight beats Ward imo. Ward is an ATG at super mw, but that version of Toney was firing on all cylinders. It would be a close competitive fight, but Toney edges it for me.

Hm good match. I think ward is tough match for toney but at their best gotta go with Toney. His volume and engine being the difference. But if they fought 5 times I'd favor ward to go like 3-1-1.

Nah Toney would simply be far too much for Canelo
