I got Hopkins. He was the more versatile guy and would also do whatever it took to win and not care how it looked. I could see him using speed and movement and then trying up on the inside. He also was smart enough to know that throwing more than one of two punches at a time against Toney would open himself up to Toney's legendary counter punching. BHOP wins an ugly UD all the while Toney calls him a ***** for not fighting him in the pocket.
That's about it for me too. Very versatile too he'd be doing what he needs to with discipline as always.
If properly motivated, Toney wins. Toney is a better fighter than Bernard. Bernard just had better discipline.
Right.I still remember when Hopkins backed out of a Toney fight at 190 after the Jirov fight.Toney then went on to face Holyfield
I remember being so excited for that fight but it just never materialized. I think BHOP went after Tarver and like you said Toney went for Holyfield. BHOP and Toney are my two favorite fighters of the last 20 years both for different reasons.
I would agree that Toney is the more natural fighter and was more talented athletically. Both guys have a grit and toughness to them that only comes around ever so often. I think BHOP was the smarter fighter though and always came to fight with a brilliant game plan.
