It's an interesting fight. Two guys with terrific chins .. at 175 you have to favor Conn by decision ,. may have even been quicker at 175 than Toney w the extra weight. Good fight.
Time for a "Let's be real" conversation... Prime Toney. Conn couldn't handle that level of slick. Don't mistake action for movement.
Conn was a product of the Depression and WW2 eras. He was a tough, swaggering, confident, "take-no-shlt" Irishman who would have been more than a match for Toney's trash talk, and would have outclassed him in the ring much like Jones did...all night long.
Conn was special after he learned his trade on the fly suffering some early defeats to quality fighters he grew into an exceptional fighter. He was even laying a smackdown on Louis until the 13th. Toney whom I admire as a special fighter just doesn’t match up well with Conn. although he is good enough in his own right to make it competitive. Conn clear decision in solid fight
I don't count out an in shape motivated Toney against anyone. Toney getting sold short here as usual. I know its Toneys own fault he gets a lot of heat but the man possessed great skills and natural instincts. He unfortunately chose to think that was enough to get by on instead of treating it like he should have. If Toney had say a Fraziers dedication we would be speaking of him in completely different terms today. But yes I get it he didn't and it's his own fault.
I think that conn is being a little overrated and toney underrated i think that it is a fair match and both could win
This..What if Toney turns up serious?? There isn't a fighter in history i'd take over him if he trains properly or he makes it a very very competitive fight with anyone ever...One of thee most gifted fighters of all time imo, regardless who they are or what they've accomplished, Toneys good enough to beat anyone
