In the bout it’ll be the best of Toney the most motivated in his prime but it’ll be taking place at 175lbs. James was never really 168lbs at his best if he didn’t have to make weight he was probably 175lbs-180lbs or so, same deal with Mustafa, I’m trying to stipulate not to stress the weight or (important for both) motivation being a factor. Just finished watched Mustafa vs Pops I wish that guy showed up more. What do you fellas think?

I find Mustafa to be so straight up in his stance, he looks so weird but he had pinpoint accuracy, he reminds me of Kostya Tzsyu in how he shoots that right hand...
Toney would make him look silly though because he was a master in slipping right hands and countering them if the guy was straight up like that.

I may be recalling Mustafa wrong though, was him like I am describing ? He was no mover, right ?
Orthodox angles won´t work with Toney, punch selection won´t work against Toney, you have to move fast and around him and not rely on the straight right because he will see it coming...

Ironically, EMM was actually Toney's trainer for a time @175 - does this mean he'd be training Toney to defeat himself? :watchout:

He threw his right from a variety of angles though, & he also had a devastating two-fisted body attack when he chose to make use of it.

Here's video of his biggest/best career win vs. Marvin Johnson:

At his best, I might take Toney by a hair. Just think that he would want it more down the stretch, and, despite his excellent skills, Eddie could lose focus.

Let’s roll this one out , this is probably one of the best more “modern” LHW fights you could make.

As I keep saying 175 was Toney's worst weightclass he never really had any notable wins at the weight and lost to Griffin twice and Thadzi who was an unremarkable fighter.

Muhammad could also be hit and miss at times but atleast he beat notable fighters at the weight and is much more proven at the weight.

Muhammad has a higher peak level at Light Heavyweight and should win a decision here.

I think Toney was no different at 175 than any other weight class. IMO he won close fights against Griffin and Thadzi. In some fights he was in shape, in others he was not. But this was the case for any other weight class as well.

Yes but we are using a version of Toney that doesn’t have to make weight in his prime, he’d be a 175lbs if he wasn’t boiling down. Should be about there skills not a critique of resumes at 175lbs where JT was in a slump, this is a young, prime Toney with no scale issues / motivational problems likewise for Mustafa.

We can't use fantasy scenarios that didn't happen we judge it on what actually transpired in real time and Toney was not that successful at Light Heavyweight end of.

Considering it’s my thread and a fictional scenario that I specified in the OP you can kick rocks lol.
