Toney feasted on come forward fighters. Golovkin stood in front of Canelo and ate shots. Toney is much much better at slipping, catching and countering and would be teeing off all night. Golovkin looks to have a decent chin, but Toney on his best night could end up stopping him.

Take away the roids and Toney is just a little bit above good.
And people saying Toney might stop GGG, that´s vile.
Never been rattled, never been wobbled despite sharing the ring with real gunslingers.
And Toney of all people stops this beastly specimen?
    LOL

As good as GGG is, I think he'd find a lot of tricks not working with an in-shape Toney. Lights Out gets the UD by a point or two maybe.

Jirov is very similar to GGG. Both Kazakh's went through the olympic program there. GG hit harder overall but Jirov threw more. I think James lays on the ropes and feasts on a come forward version of him. If GGG jabs and runs it's a toss up. Fighting James is always a wrong decision @160. GGG isn't nearly as skilled a Mike McCallum was and is notably slower. GGG can't trade, but might win a fencing match.

Toney likely lacks the one punch power to stop Golovkin, but then again Toney is a member of the 400 club and has multiple entries, Toney might stop him on simple accumulation of shots. Golovkin is very easy to hit and Toney in his prime at middleweight threw a lot of punches and landed a lot of punches. If Golovkin eats over 400 punches off of Toney many of them counters maybe he could succumb late in the fight.

But I wouldn't put money on it. I think GGG lasts the full 12 rounds but loses.

Toney easy UD 10 - 2 - GGG has zero chance of winning. Look how Canelo handled him - imagine what prime Toney will do

Agree. This fight would look much like Toney vs Jirov, but at MW.

3G has not reached elite level yet...but he is improving and will. SO it is too earlyto say he cannot beat an elite like toney.

Why are you comparing the oldest version of Golovkin to the most hypothetical prime version of Toney? That’s not right, Loudon, and you should know that:nonono That’s like saying, Who would win? The version of Roy who got his **** pushed in by Johnson vs the GGG who busted Macklin’s ribs - at a catchweight of 168...
The reality is that James was an incredible old school talent, capable of hanging with almost anyone in history...assuming that he didn’t slag off on his training, which he was known for.
As far as Golovkin goes, we never really got to see him in his prime; he was probably the most avoided man since Charley Burley. Both men were great and a close fight either way is not unreasonable. The absolute best a prime, rested, bigger and drugged up Clenelo could do to the older, past-his-prime Golovkin was take a razor thin decision that many felt Clenelo lost (again). I think your dealings with Mark Ant are starting to pull you down to his level:ohno

Hi mate, I've not purposely compared he oldest version of GG to a prime Toney. I don't do things like that in fantasy debates.

    My points were clear.

I asked the poster who I was debating with, how he could envisage an easy shut out win for GG, when we've never seen him fight a guy of Toney's calibre before.

I just noted that the best 2 fighters who GG has faced, have been Jacobs and Canelo, who he had very tough fights against.

If you want to note that he was faded then, and you think that earlier versions of him would have produced different results, then that's cool.

Personally, I think that any version of GG would have had tough nights against Jacobs and Canelo.

Those guys are tough with good skills.

I agree with you, GG was very much avoided and kidded to.
