James Toney Vs Gennady Golovkin at MW. Who you got?

When we're talking Toney, we have to think prime Toney in prime condition.
I'm favouring Toney here.
I SUSPECT GGG is Top 5 on a H2H level for me, though.

 

To my recollection Toney never beat any of those fighters.. and Toney was Toney claiming well he never got busted for roids as a middleweight doesn't mean he was clean the guy was busted for taking roids several times in his career claiming that he must be clean when fighting at a certain weight is pure B.S everything he did was Tainted just like Lance Armstrong.

Yeah he was only caught what 2 or 3 times in his career.. there is no way he would be using steroids before a fight especially when they didn't really test back then.. .. GGG has been VADA tested he has no business being mentioned in the same breath as a proven cheat.

Now toney has retired,he was unbeatable,no mention he was destroyed by jones,struggled with far less opposition than ggg,list to weak opposition,dissapeared for years,yet,hes this almighty beast.be a good fight,especially at mw were he didnt have the dicipline to stay in shape,ggg works him over

Toney was great no doubt,why though doesnt ggg get any credit,what did toney do at mw to suggest hes a million miles better ?

 

Oh I absolutely agree with this. I was just making mention of him vs Golovkin in specific.

Toney was one of those rare fighters who was so good on a natural level that he didn't have to train that hard for his fights early on. That's essentially what started his downward spiral from being the pound for pound best- he lived a somewhat sedentary lifestyle and had a tendency to balloon up in weights between fights.

People make mention of Jones' win over him but THAT version of Toney was nowhere near his best. He was already having a good amount of trouble shedding down to 160 lbs at that time.

if the guy lived the life of a boxer all year round and kept himself in top condition, who knows how great he would've been. He was already a great fighter, no doubt, but he had the kind of talent to be one of the elite ATG's. Watching his fights, especially between around 1990 to 1993, and you saw one of the most naturally gifted fighters in the history of the sport.

But I agree with you on the notion that he'd wipe through Golovkin's resume even if it wasn't the best version of himself.

But saying that,hasnt ggg blew through all of his opposition.he cant control who wont fight him.he obviously wants the canello fight,and the **** hes gone thru to get it is laughable,yet he gets the flack.
Hopkins wanted the same with tito and dlh,only moved up as he was beaten twice by fckin taylor.hes held up with the gods now,his resume was **** poor,he was god almighty when he beat a podgy winky,a pissed up pavlik,who was never all that,tarver,better with age even,then calzaghe beats him and he was past his prime.
Hagler beat 2 ww's and a lightweight to seal his legacy and stayed at me,no flack for this.
Ggg wins in a way that suggests he'll destroy any smw and i dont think many would bet against him at lhw.
