Big Toney fan but he is far from a lock here. Tiberi beat him. Watch the fight. And Tiberi is no Triple G. Johnson arguably beat him. Nunn was winning wide before Toney rallied.
Triple G has not come CLOSE to losing and is what 34-35 years old already. Yeah he doesn't have as many good names as Toney but his skills are quite clear, he is the real deal.
    Good fight

Toney is so much naturally bigger. At 18 he played football at 200lbs while GGG fought at like 140lbs when he was 18.

True. My bad. I'm 87, and my memory isn't what it was. Good news is Dikey still hard in morning.

Toney beat Reggie. It was close but clear SD win.

Depends which Toney shows up. We all know he lacked discipline, even in his biggest fight against RJJ he couldn't find the will to keep his weight down and show up at 100% or close to it, there is no guarantee we'd get the Toney that beat Nunn, Barkley or McCallum and not the one needing some sight impaired judges against Tiberi.

But this is a hypothetical match up and it's only fair to pit the best version of both fighters against one another and in that scenario there is only one winner and that's Toney. Toney struggled with elusive fighters that moved and countered him and made him chase as he wasn't the fleetest of fighters in terms of movement and he preferred to counter.

Golovkin's style is all wrong for trying to beat Toney. Toney eats fighters alive that come to him, nothing Golovin does would bother Toney. GGG's power pales in to comparison to the power of the heavies Toney fought. GGG's body attack will be ineffectual against the Philly shell guard which uses the left arm to cover the body. Golovkin's pressure will just give Toney more chances to counter, Jirov's pressure only opened him up to Toney and it would be the same for Golvkin.

    Toney wins a wide decision.

Toney loves that aggressive fighter who comes forward running into counters.
He also had pretty good power at MW. More power than I believe Golovkin has ever felt.
IMO, Toney had more power at MW than Stevens, but didn't focus on the KO like Stevens does. Toney also punched with more precision and timing than Stevens.
Toney, at his best, also got stronger as the fight progressed. There is a good chance that in the later rounds Toney would do a Nunn on Golovkin and close the show.

If Toney comes in shape and motivated Toney UD's maybe even TKO's GGG.

    Haha.

Haters are so frustrated with Golovkin to the point of fantasizing about mythical matchups where he loses.

Toney at his best has too much for GG. He wouldn't need to back away like many do, he'd let GG come to him and stand his ground and work at close range, nullifying a lot of GG's power by denying him space and just adopting that uber relaxed style of blocking, moving, punching from in the pocket. Not saying it would be easy or a sure thing, but I think he had the perfect style to take away a lot of what GG brings to the party...

Why is it 'hating' to pick an ATG and debate if he has the skills to beat GG? Seems to be a perfectly reasonable thing to do on a boxing forum. It's actually a compliment to GG that people are reaching for someone like Toney to find his nemesis. It's not hating to think GG could be beaten by a ring legend, but it is fanboi-ism to think it's impossible or to refuse to even consider it a worthwhile question to ask and answer...
