Even the thread starter is aware of this. But i don't understand why every time a decent fighter comes along he has to be compared to the ATG boxers in his weight division. Just appreciate him in the here and now.
This is exactly how it should be - leave the ATG comparisons to the boxing fans of the future. Unfortunately in this case the TS is simply an anti-Golovkin troll who starts 3 or 4 GGG related threads every day, matching him with Hagler, Toney....hell even Haye with (apparently) the sole intent of inciting discord between GGG fans and other forum users.
They are lionized because they DESERVE it. Maybe you are satisfied with watching Euro-robots waltz for 12 rounds, but here in the US we have more INTERESTING characters.
Guys who stood in front of James @ 160 weren't seeing the final bell. If they were to fight 10 times, Toney KO's him every go round...
Jirov is not exactly GGG, but its the same chin/gene pool, style is forward and thats all matters to Toney. I expect something similar as Toney is a master at dealing with forward fighters :smoke
Is this where I pretend I watched a 1990 James Toney coming up the ranks, then end up making my inevitable prejudiced decision I was going to make regardless of actually watching his fights on Youtube?
At his best Toney would comfortably beat Golovkin. He dominates fighters who come straight at him, which Golovkin would inevitably do. Toney was durable enough to take Golovkin's best shots, smile back and hit him with a flush right hand counter. Toney's just too slick, durable and skilled to lose to Golovkin.
