[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMLqQrGDQhw[/ame] Its probably been done to death but how does the Brit Forum see a Benn/Watson/Eubank fight around this time ? Am finding it hard to believe any of them......even combined......could handle such a task. Am maybe way off but....... Also, did Toney finish Barkleys career ? Anyways :good
I love that fight. Before the first time I'd seen it, I don't think I had previously witnessed infighting as good as James Toney displayed in that bout. Obviously as I've watched more fighters, I've seen even more superb in-fighting performances, but that one has always stood out to me because it was the first that really wow'd me. Toney on his best day, for me, could beat all 3 of those guys. However, when you're discussing a hypothetical match-up between Toney and any of those fighters, you have to take into account that Toney didn't always show up 100% every time. Take the Tiberi fight for example, it's feasable that Benn, Eubank or Watson could beat the Toney who struggled in that fight. Though I do think at their respective peaks Toney stands above the 3 brits in terms of ability.
Cheers, ayes i maybe should of said......at there peak....though that would be down to peoples opinion also. :thumbsup
I'd be interested to see who some of the more informed brains have winning the match-ups you mentioned :good
toney is actually in the top 20 for number of punches landed in a worlkd title fioght for that performance. what is really impressive about that is every other fight in that top 20 lasted 12 rounds at least. his was stopped after 8. I actually think it is one of the best performances ever in terms of a one sided clinical dismantling. and i dont think there are many better inside fighting performances. i could watch it time and time again and not get bored. sheer brilliance. benn koed early after getting countered loads. eubank loses on points in at tikmes ugly affair. watson outclassed and loses on points or late ko.
who exactly was iran barkley again, he produced a career best performance against an average fighter like barkley it hardly means much,
The Barkley fight flatters Toney to a degree. Iran was basically blind in one eye before the fight. Toney gets very overrated when he lost to lesser fighters than Benn and Eubank. I'll need to have a think about some analysis.
Prime Benn would have been a Toney nightmare. This is the same Barkley that was blasted in one by Benn. Stylistically Barkley was perfect for Toney in a sense that he was long limbed, fought with his heart on his sleave and lacked speed and infighting smarts of his own. Toney looked superb here.
Fair dooz, whats your thoughts on the rest of my opening post ? Thanks. Wasnt that after Toney ? As above, your thoughts on the rest of the opening post ? Thanks. Fair dooz. Had a think yet ? Thanks. Appreciate the reply/thoughts. Thanks. I probably should of left Barkley out of it (as an example) with regards to the other three. Anyways... cheers all :good
Barkley was made to order for Toney by this time. Toney did indeed look superb, though. You can't really look much better than that.
one of my favourite toney fights that barkley was made for him but its the smoothness that toney shows what leaves you in awe. benn was also hurt by barkley barkley didnt even touch toney. i think toney would off made easy work of all three of them. benns wild shots would get rolled and countred and toney would counter eubanks jab all night and the occational launching right hand
