Toney boxes his head off and beats him up terribly on the inside. If anybody fades, it would be Lamotta under the beating he would take. I just don't see a range at which he has success. Toney was an incredibly durable boxer who had stamina for days when in-form. He also was bigger, had more tools at more ranges, and just as sturdy of a beard as Lamotta. I don't see Toney losing this.
This would be a dead even fight to me despite some of James advantages, Toney didn’t have the best legs so Jake will find him and as Ray said “you don’t need to look for Jake in there” I believe that LaMotta isn’t wearing out James see the Jirov fight, so I don’t see him winning that way but then there’s the 15 rounds… In fairness James is a LHW back then so I doubt Jake can bull him around but he can box pretty good and the way I see it LaMotta might outclass James just enough on the inside enough to steal the show. Tight decision for Jakey 60-40? I don’t know which guy is the better one on the outside considering each fellow loved the phone booth fights. Pushed to pick one I’d say LaMotta with some small amount of confidence. He had a few more dimensions to his game even if he prefers to maul his man,He out-jabbed Ray Robinson for moments. No stoppage here obviously…
Taking Toney here I think Toney tears Jake up on the inside and mid range. He doesn't even need to stay on the outside to win this.
I’m not even a Toney fan but he would likely shut out Lamotta. I’ll give Jake his props and say he finishes on his feet
