Coming in at whatever weight you believe suits them the most.

Afraid he’s too fast for quarry and ends up bust him up probably a stoppage on cuts.

Quarry would probably pick him apart from the outside but its a close fight

I really always wanted to see a battle of the Jerries. Jerry Quarry and Jerry Lewis.

I feel like Quarry's aggression and initiative allow him to win a close decision. Toney would be formidable though.

Jerry's more compact size and short punches actually work in his favor here.

What skills of Quarry lead you to that conclusions?

I would favour cruiserweight Toney to beat Quarry. Quarry was very good but Toney was just outrageously skilled.

That being said, i think peak Quarry could outwork the fat 230 lb version of Toney. So depends on which Toney shows up.

Shorter, more direct delivery as opposed to longer fighters with reach.

Not sure. By the time Toney was fighting at the higher weights he was older and not in great shape. Of course it’s almost impossible to envision Quarry getting a knockout here given that James was never stopped in nearly a hundred fights. Both were skilled but in a very different way. Quarry’s chin wasn’t bad but he tended to cut and bleed. Weird fight that probably has an equally weird outcome

Wouldn't that put him in range to be countered?

Long, reaching punches are easier to evade and counter with good head movement than short, direct ones though, unless the taller guys distance management is top notch. Not a rule though.

Toney's whole game at cruiserweight- and he and Quarry were both cruisers by modern standards- was based on evading and countering short, direct punches.
The way that Quarry fought inside, do you think that makes him vulnerable to uppercuts? How many guys had extended periods of success against Toney with short range left hooks?
