Likely scenario: Calzaghe lacks the power to KO Toney or ability to land clean slaps on the elusive Toney. Toney counter punches JC to death, wins via late round stoppage after Enzo throws in the towel to save his girl from taking anymore punishment. Any thoughts?

It's a toss up. Joe is smart and aggressive, Tony is smart and defensive.

It likely goes to a decision.

The only person I would pick to beat Joe for sure at 168 is Roy Jones, but in a close fight.

    James Toney by T.K.O.
I agree, Enzo would defo be forced to throw in the towel against Toney.
There is nothing in Joe's game that can hold off a James Toney.
Not enough Power!, I don't see a knockout.
    But it's lil' brother, TKO.

In a Jirov state of Mind....

I could see Calzaghe's workrate taking the judges eye even if much was ineffective and him getting a close decision.

Toney would win. He is smarter, has more skills, more punching power (@168 ) and a much better chin.

no such thing as a prime 168 toney.
he was prime as a young middle and everything after ,was him relying on skills and abilty as he ate himself out of division after division.

    super middle included.
he dipped his toes in the division only.

Um, Joe Calzaghe is a very good fighter, but we're talking about a prime Toney here. Joe will maybe more active, but he won't land many slaps on Toney. Toney, however, will find a mark for his counterpunches, wearing Calzaghe down for a late rds TKO, maybe even a KO if he lands a perfectly timed punch (Toney had good punching power at SMW). And we should not forget that Toney could not only counterpunch, like many here believe, but could also fight aggressively at MW and SMW when he wanted. Toney is a tough son of a b**** and Calzaghes punches wouldn't even hurt him.
Still, we still don't really know how tough Calzaghe really is, he has a good chin himself and good stamina, so maybe he can go the distance, losing a decision.

Just would'nt happen. I no alot of guys on here love to hate Joe but it just would'nt happen. Joe is as great as you'd hate him to be and at 168 like the man says the only person in history that could have beaten him at that weight was RJJ. Fact and im giving RJJ the benefit of the doubt there. And minto what crack are you smokin? Joe's chin is as hard as a coffin nail. Fact, he's proved it or are you blind? Are you?

The prime and focused Toney would easily beat Joe. Prime Toney only had one style that gave him problems, guys with faster hands than him who moved alot. Joe, when truly punching, isn't faster than Toney, and does not possess the lateral movement to beat Toney, he mostly wins with his workrate as the centerpiece. Throwing a lot of punches, some of them wide arm punches, is not wise against a prime Toney. He lands whenever Calzaghe is close, walks through Joe's punches, and takes an easy decision. I can't see Joe beating the prime Toney. He's got a good enough chin and enough ring intelligence to last the distance, but with the exception of 3 maybe 4 rounds, Toney clearly wins, probably dropping Calz once or twice. Roy would beat Toney 9 times out of 10, he has the perfect style, but Toney was so weight drained for that fight he had to be hooked up to a machine the day before. He would have done better against Jones if he prepared for it properly, that's the biggest flaw Toney has. Also, whenever Jones was close to Toney, James got the better of him. Roy's insane speed and athleticism, along with his longer reach and superior movement won him the fight, he potshots guys, Calzaghe doesn't. That would be Joe's downfall.

There is another thread on here about worst one-sided beatdowns. This thread got me thinking about SMM Toney, and i remembered Toney-Barkley. That was brutal. Alot like Mayweather-Gatti. But anyway, for this thread, what does calzaghe have an edge in except maybe workrate.
    Power: Toney
Speed: Even. that's Joe's flurries. When truly punching, Toney was faster.
    Chin: Toney
    Defense: Toney
    Strength: Toney
    Accuracy: Toney
Imagine a much younger, more active, and more aggressive version of the B-Hop Calzaghe fought with considerably more power.

C'mon man. A young Toney would've killed JC. Joe is a very good fighter but not a great fighter. He fought in a weak era at 168 and now that super-middle is heating up with guys like Froch, Bute, Taylor and Pavlik and Abraham moving up soon, he's fighting a 40 year old Jones. JC is way overrated by fanboys like you and he his resume is highly suspect. If he was so great, why didn't he step up in weight and win belts in multiple weight classes like the real Great fighters of his generation did? It took him 10 years to unify the belts at SMW...10 f'n years!! What was he afraid of if he's so f'n great? And he barely got past a 43 year old Hopkins to earn the ring magazine Lt. Heavyweight belt. Are you blind? Thats the question...
