James Toney vs Joe Calzaghe.

Joe wouldn't fight Glen Johnson or Clinton Woods for Gods sake. Tony would school him.

He was hoping to take-on Joe Calzaghe, the WBO super middleweight champion. Woods believed he should move up to the light-heavy division to challenge himself - but as woods put it, "he chickened out."

 

The only opponent Calzaghe beat worth mentioning at smw is Kessler.

 

I'm not referring to the Ring like it's the be all and end all, that's why I referred to the Transnational boxing board. I'm referring to The Ring because they're the only publication off the top of my head that lists their historic rankings on the internet. If not them, whose top ten are we referring to?

Ashira dropped out of the top ten when he was bombed out in two rounds by Masoe.

 

He was in the top 10 when Calzaghe beat him, also the Ring to my knowledge only give an annual rating, do you have a monthly rating of theirs?

 

Only by rummaging in the loft and digging out the copies stashed up there that are stuck to old bongo mags...

The guy was LMW/MW, he had a shot at a vacant MW title but got blown away in 2 by a pretty average Masoe, his one and only fight at SMW was somehow a title shot at Calzaghe. After losing a tedious points decision to Calzaghe, he went back down to doing 6 rounders against club fighters at 154lbs, as that was his weight class and level.

This why bailey is no more than a troll and a joke, he will try and degrade Jones' win over Toney because according to him Toney didn't have any real pedigree at SMW. Yet he will try and make out Calzaghe vs Ashira was some legitimate title fight

Calzaghe was an injury prone fighter who pulled out of the Sheika contest, i believe 3 times, but we know what happened there and sheika beat Johnson.
As for G Johnson, you are wrong. Johnson lost the boxoff against Sheika. the winner was mandatory which is why sheika got the shot.

They would have fought in 2004 if Johnson had waited instead of fighting Jones. Johnson told Dan Goosen to forget about Joe. Yet he came running back to Calzaghe when Joe became a superstar after whooping Lacy.

and I have a hard time believing Calzaghe would duck an old journeyman like Johnson to fight a younger, much more dangerous Mikkel Kessler!!! and yes Calzaghe WAS injury prone. he was notorious for hand problems.....Many of his fights including Lacy had to be rescheduled. He still ended up fighting them. He wanted to reschedule the Johnson fight but like i saidJ ohnson said he was "done" with Calzaghe.

I got rid of several copies like that and of other publications. There are often things i recall from these magazines that i can recall, but dont mention the details of in debates as I would have no way of confirming, even though I have read various things in publications. Thats with several fighters

 

How is it trolling when i was able to show Ashira was top 10 at MW when Calzaghe beat him?
I dont call it a top win or anything, just noted above.
I know Ashira was a tune up for Lacy, but he was a top 10 rated MW, who also after Calzaghe did contest the Commonwealth title with H Eastman, which wasnt a 6 rounder

He's a clown, there is a reason why 90% of boxing fans question Calzaghe's resume. This was a guy who was scared of flying so he couldn't fight abroad. He soon got over that fear to fight the corpse of Roy Jones. This is what Joe said earlier in his career "I'm not chasing after Roy Jones. Be honest, Roy Jones is a good fighter and I don't want tough fights, I just want big money."
