Toney would be in there with a serious chance in this one. I think I side with Marciano but I wouldn't be suprised at all to see Toney nick a decision.

 

It probably would have looked a lot like Toney - Jirov only with Marciano the winner in the end.

Either way it would have been a very compelling and competitive matchup. You all who are picking Marciano to destroy Toney are beyond ignorant.

 

Toney has never been stopped, so saying he gets stopped is something. However, Marciano is the beast that could put that fat on its ass through sheer willpower.

I think Toney has a chance to potshot his way to victory, given his skills and chin, but I don't think it is likely.

Ok, let's assume this fight would take place at CW, since by todays standards Marciano is a CW. And let's suppose Toney was in tip top shape and focused, aged 35, like he was against Jirov.

Marciano beat Charles Ezzard, Jersey Joe Walcott and Archie Moore, fighters Toney holds in high regard and likes to compare himself with. Marciano himself is one of Toneys favourite fighters, if I remember well he even rated Rocky above himself when asked some years ago. There's no doubt that Rocky was one of the best ever. But so is Toney, at least for me.

Stylewise, Marciano is just right for Toney. That's a fact. I see Marciano swarming Toney all night long with Toney countering at will. Sort of like Toney-Jirov part 2, however Marciano is much better than Jirov of course - who already gave Toney a good fight. Rocky was successfull with swarming other old-school ATGs like said Ezzard Charles, Walcott or Moore, he even was even ahead on points against Ezzard and Moore. But he was behind on points in the first Walcott fight, where he needed the KO.

But I don't see a KO happening here. Not even if the fight was 15 rounds. Marciano would probably outwork Toney, but not land enough clean punches to stop the granite-chinned Toney. Toney has a better chin than Ezzard, Walcott or Moore. I wouldn't even completely rule out a huge upset by Toney.

 

The Toney that beat Barkley with 10 lbs extra, would be ideal against Marciano. Marciano does have some defensive skills but he would be taking leather all night from Toney's counters.

 

Maricano by murder. That fat ass wouldn't know what hit him.

 

Toney never ever fought a fighter like Marciano. His pressure and workrate was just insane. Toney would be successful with his style early on but as the fight goes on the pressure and punches of Marciano takes it´s toll. Toney has a great chin but it was never tested against the combination of that many and hard punches. Either Toney get´s KOed or he will be seriously injured.

Somebody said that Walcott, Charles and Moore had some success against the Brockton Blockbuster. Yeah, they had until Marciano´s body punching took their legs away. Toney hasn´t very fast legs to begin with.

 

Toney would school him for most of the fight but I think Marciano would eventually get to him. Probably late stoppage to Rocky with Toney still on his feet.
