can toney win with his craft and ring savy or does he get brutally slaughtered to the canvas by the rock never to fight again because hes so ruined after the showdown?

Poor James, his defence doesn´t help him at all here, Marciano just pounds what is in front of him. Probably a mercy stoppage by the ref, late in the fight with Toney looking like he just was in a car accident.

Toney would have to hire someone to hold his cigar to his lips after this one. Marciano would break all the blood vessels in Toney's arms before finishing him.

Toney's recent flop against the MMA guy would look like a highlight reel compared to this.

Stylewise this matchup suits Toney very well.Marciano fights straightforward and the fight would be mostly an inside fight.

At his best, James Toney is one of the best if not the best inside fighters of all time.
The guy picks off shots with his arms and shoulders and then counters with short effective shots to the body and head. Add to that,Toney's chin, toughness and durability. Too much for Marciano who was not a big guy (about 5t11).

So, I say Toney by UD but that is about the only ATG heavywweight Toney would beat. Against the Larry Holmes and Lennox Lewis, Toney loses by decision.

That´s actually is his problem here. After round 6 he probably won´t doing this anymore.

I thought this one was already done just within the last couple of months...

In any case, I'll have to go with the reality check: Marciano KO8-12.

Problem is, you don't wear Toney down. He is just so durable, built like a tank. All of Marciano's atributes (toughness, power, determination, chin) are not likely to trouble Toney.I respect Marcian but this is just a bad matchup for him.Just as Larry Holmes would be a matchup for toney.

Yes, it would. Marciano catched guys with more skill than him, and yes Toney is durable but he never got hit with as many hard shots as he would be here. After six rounds he would be barely able to move his left arm anymore. After ten his face is all swollen up. And at some point afterwards the ref steps in.

It's a great match-up for Marciano because at heavyweight Toney didn't move his feet very well... and that's putting it politely. All the movement from hips up would do little to deter Marciano. This would be a slaughter.

And by the way, Lennox Lewis would take out Toney in 4 or 5 rounds.

Toney is not in the elite class of HW's...

If he thought Peter hit hard, he's going to wake up a new man after this one...

Being slippery and sneaking counters in when you can off the ropes only gets you so far. He would be trying to survive, not win. Marciano would be the aggressor here, and Toney would lose by not being first. It's not in his mentality to be first and be aggressive.

Marciano takes his share of counters, but erodes Toney's defense away to the core.

This would be fought on the inside. Toney is one of the best inside fighters of all time.He is just too savy and technical than Marciano in that regard. How do you see marciano fighting on the inside against one of the best then? Add to it that nobbody has come close to stop Toney in over 80 figts and 22 years.

First of all, I am talking Toney at his best. That is not Toney against Sam Peter.

Toney is not an ATG heavyweight but an ATG nevertheless. I am not claiming that Toney would beat other ATG heavyweights, it is just that Marciano's style is tailor for Toney. I agree that Marciano would take his counters but lose a UD.

Marciano wasn't so bad on the inside, himself. He is much more mobile and would use lateral movement, moving to his right (nullifying Toney's right), and using underrated head movement and defense.

Even if Toney turned out to be Marciano's superior in terms of inside technique, he would lose the battle, because at some point Marciano would break through and start landing bombs due to his ability to fight hard and keep the pressure up consistently for as long as the fight lasted.

Conditioning and will trumps technique just about every time. This is a remedial concept.
