God I love both of these guys, and yeah, I think it would be a very competitive fight. If I had a gun to my head I would say Marciano because swarming is often a good antidote to great defense--you can't slip or parry everything when 100 punches are being thrown at you in a round. But Toney would be a very live live dog.
Spot on. Mariciano's workrate would win him the fight but it would also give toney opportunities to catch him with clean counters fairly often which would make it pretty interesting.
I'd pick Marciano because against Walcott, Moore, and Charles he showed the ability to deal with this type of fighter (albeit not without problems). I think Rocky's problems are the modern behemoths.
This would be a very interesting fight for 5-6 rounds, since James was very good at protecting his body, ducking under right hands, and sneaking in punches, which are all things that have Marciano trouble. Not to mention James had a great chin. The only problem was James never showed up in top form at cruiserweight, so his output would most likely droupout in the later rounds, which would cost him the decision.
It is very hard to beat a fit and motivated Toney in this type of fight. But if anybody could do it, it is probably Marciano. I am going with the general consensus: Marciano by competitive decision. Maybe even split decision as one judge might prefer Toney's clean counters over Marciano's workrate.
The 217 pounder version of toney who fought evander would be a hard fight for marciano, Toney is much heavier here but at the same time much faster, he had iron chin incredible move of head. Marciano is not stopping Toney, no.at least not the version that fought evander
Marciano keeps coming and coming and coming, Toney won't be able to keep him off and Rock will hit him on his shoulders , hips, arms everywhere until Toney crumples to the canvas in the later rounds.
Marciano outworks and grinds Toney down to a UD or a potential late stoppage (Toney's never been stopped before - hence why I said potential) in a tough fight were he loses the early rounds. A great match-up and entertaining fight is sure to take place in a 'Fight of the Year' worthy match-up.
I have Rocky in this one. Toney has his moments but ultimately he can barely move his arms at the end of the fight from Rocky beating on him. As much as I like Jirov, he did not have Rocky's power. That power is the difference.
