Toney always had weight problems but in their fight he had to drop 47 pounds in a very short, 6 week camp, which is INSANE. Not Roy's fault at all and props to him for the W, but if he fought the Toney of the Barkley fight, it would have been a very very close competitive fight.

Some people just dont like giving Jones credit, or admitting he was an ATG.

If Toney didnt prepare his best, tough. Every fighter who loses can use the excuse that he could have prepared better.

Toney had fought at 168 less than 4 months previously, and the fight was signed a couple of months before. How out of shape could the guy have been?

People always use silly excuses to discredit Jones. Toney was weight drained, Hopkins was green....anything rather than admitting that prime Jones was a complete freak, the likes of which may have been unique in boxing history.

He fought less than 4 months before the Jones fight at 168....HOW ON EARTH DID HE PUT ON THAT MUCH WEIGHT IN 2 MONTHS??

Nah, it wouldn't be close. Toney was shoutout 12-0/11-1. But Toney would definitely do better than he did that night. At best 8-4 for Jones, but a 10-2/9-3 is more likely. Jones' speed was just alien around this time and he was defensively responsible against Toney.

Toney showed no evidence in prior fights that he was struggling at the weight, especially when he poleaxed Prince Charles Williams with a picture perfect right hand.

3 months after he beat Leonard Duran was 190 pounds, it's called gluttony

My memory maybe faulty but he weighed in the same night as well for the Jones fight. Somewhere north of 185 pounds was what the commentator was saying.

Nah, people would just say Roy struggled with a weight drained, undisciplined Tony.

Roy was all wrong for Toney. Weight wouldn’t change that. Only way Toney beats Roy is when they’re older when Toney’s style aged better and he still had power vs Roy’s older more stationary style and shaky chin.

I think even despite the weight issues, the result would never change. At his best, Roy was as close to unbeatable as you could get and his speed and power for me would always be too much for Toney.

Jones toys with counterpunchers. Toney never had a chance.
