I taking this as the best toney possible at 175 Toney by ud but he may get pretty badly shook up along the way
I think prime, fit, JLOT is losing 6 rds to 1, when he catches KOvalev with a counter and turns it around. Kindof like the Vitali vs Byrd fight, except Byrd never hurt Vitali. And I think Toney can hurt KOvalev. :think
Not even close. Kovalev doesn't manage to win a single round on his way to getting KTFO'ed. Come on people, lets be honest here. Kovalev is at minimum two classes below JT...
Toney as great as he was, was still very beatable back in his day . Unfortunately I have not seen enough from Kovalev that tells me he can even hold his own against Prime Toney .
Toney with or without the steroids... dude was caught juicing several times.. every win he had should have an asterick next to it...:deal
Don't know who would win TBH. Toney's success at HW was somewhat due to his advantages in hand speed, defense and skill with counterpunching. He had 2 of those advantages over LHW's, but his handspeed was not much better than SK's. I'll say this if Kovalev could not get an early KO Toney would school him in the late rounds.
Yeah my bad your right. Toney was never KO'd. I need to jog my memory better. I do think Kovalev could hurt Toney though, but yeah putting a guy away who's never been KO'd. I'll give you that.
He does not know. Toney was a very good light heavweight. He looked impressive against the likes of Duran Williams, Delgadao , Earl Butler. He arguably beat griffin twice (with the 2nd one a clear one). The judges made bad calls there. HBO had Toney winning twice. Thadzi caught Toney unprepared but one can still make an argumeent thgat Toney won thatfight based on clean punches.
To think about it Lucas Browne wasn't hurting him either, and with Toney only a shadow of his old form. The only thing about Toney at 175 was he seemed to just kinda be there until he got serious again around 99, and moved into a full fledged CW. There were a lot of fights where he just showed up fat, and looked uneventful until somewhere around the Adolpho Washington fight, and he was a beast again. Watch that fight BTW. My memory serves right. it's a good display of Toney's skills. Toney as good as he was, was not a consistently dedicated fighter circa 95-98. Whe he fought at LHW, and this is where I have some doubts about how he does with Kovalev.
Sure I do. But Toney wasn't the most dedicated at LHW. He had some weight issues, and sometimes fought around 200 when he lacked the muscle to do so. He found weightlifting at some point around 98-99.
I'm 38, lol, and started watching boxing in the 80's. I just question Toney at LHW. He was less dominant there.
