Kalambay schooled McCallum, and 2nd time round it could've gone either way.

Horrible matchup for Toney this, Sumbu's feet will make him look a right ****.

Toney crushes glass-jawed Sumbu faster than Nunn did!:tong:toney

There's nothing glass about Kalambay's jaw. The Nunn thing was a one-off. Hey, Joey Maxim got caught cold too in the 1st round. Kalambay outboxes Toney all the way. I will agree with you about one thing however, it's great to see you back in action, Flea.

There's no chance of Toney winning more rounds than Kalambay.

Toney would need to knock him out and I'd probably say he doesn't but has a very good chance to.

By the way, who was the best slickster type that Toney actually looked good against to fuel your confidence in him TBooze?

If Toney did get the decision it would be by MD or SD... he never won a decisive decision over a top MW IMO. Was behind on points vs. Nunn at the time of stoppage, won very close and even questionable decisions vs. Merqui Sosa, Reggie Johnson, Mike McCallum, and David Tiberi? who wasn't even a top fighter. He also drew with McCallum.

By the end of 92 Toney wasn't even rated as the top middleweight by The Ring. p4p my arse.

 at Kalambay being a classic upright style fighter.

he gave upperbody angles, rolled with and got under punches at least as well as James ever did.He could just be very technical with his feet as well, so with more tools in the shed it might not draw the immediate attention as much as Toney's upperbody work did.

I know there's a school of thought kalambay was just(or primarily) a mover for defensive and "cuteness or ringcraft" purposes but imo he was actually a solid complete multidirectional-ditance fighter technically especially by the time he was fighting Graham and Barkley-albeit still with his comfort zones and preferred approach like most other stylists.

btw i don't think Toney was all that bad with his feet either potentially-he didn't have the same inherent balance issues someoen like Eubank seemed to when punching while coming forward or having to quickly plant his feet- but he WAS wildly inconsistent and lazy with it.

btw damn you booze.i had decided to stop talking about this era of fighters after getting talked out on it, but you've drawn be rightback in with your earnest vulgarity.;)

Both st their best my pick is Toney on points though Kalambay would give him serious problems.
