James 'Lights Out' Toney thrived against come-forward fighters & looked his best against them. Which one of these pressure fighters has the best chance of beating the slick Toney.

I`d say GGG because he`s probably the best fighter on that list, but Calzaghe would have beaten Toney with ease at 175 where Toney didn`t achieve anything super middle would have been a harder fight and Toney may have had too much left for Joe at 168 while both fighters were active at that weight despite Toney losing to Griffin during that period.

Calzaghe is far and away the toughest matchup for Toney due to his hand and foot speed. Toney (when in shape) typically thrived against guys that came to him which is most if the guys on the list. A guy like Calzaghe that could move and punch is an absolute nightmare for JT. GGG would also be tough due to his versatility and high ring IQ.

yeah, I think Joe would be the guy I would go with to beat Toney (and not a sure thing). Some other guys listed would give him a hard fight and stand a real chance as well, even if I wouldn’t pick most.

Golovkin would be tough, as would be Calzhage. One is a great technician and the other is a workrate fiend with a great engine.

Calzaghe could possibly outwork Toney ( he can’t outbox Toney )

I've seen it. You can't base the outcome of a fight on sparring sessions (although I still favour Toney to win).

Jake LaMotta was a Durable, come forward, body-puncher who would not be looking for a knockout he was always trying work his opponents till they ran out of steam opposed to looking for a KO all night, I think out of who we have he is our best choice.

That strategy didn't work for Jirov or Barkley. Jirov especially tried to work Toney's body and got countered to death. Jirov hit harder than Lamotta and was a full fledged Cruiserweight that won Olympic gold.

An in shape Toney loved facing that type of fighter. Speed and movement was definitely the key to beating Toney who was at his best in the pocket with guys right in front of him.
