I've just watched it for the first time (what a shame!). It's officially the best fight I've ever seen. I had it 116-110 for Toney.

I still can't believe it. Mormeck and Haye are **** next to these 2, and especially Toney.

its another prime example of Lederman being pure **** at scoring, he had it 113-113

yup, great fight. Yet, led to years of Toney being overrated by fans.

    Awesome fight aye.

Not only was it a war in the classical sense but it was a high paced technical boxing match, pitted two different styles together. The orthodox counter puncher vs the southpaw swarmer.

Great win for James and awesome performance by Vasily, he brung out the best in Toney. We all know JT gets lazy and almost always fights to his level of opposition but Jirov pushed him all the way/
Thats pretty much the last time we saw a fully in shape and focused Toney.

It's on Youtube and yes it is a great fight.

Round 12 was a great finish for Toney.

And yes, Lederman had me scratching my head at some of the scoring.

Except for maybe MAYBE his first venture to heavyweight against Holyfield.

Illmatic are you nuts, Toney is without a doubt one of the best fighters of our time. The Jirov fight was just another example of this great warrior. True Toney is a slob but all of the guys he fought exept for RJ were never the same.

Yeah after I typed that I was thinking of his Holy fight.
He was excellent in that aswell, and as faded as Holy was I think he was better then than he is now and didnt underestimate Toney, it was just a boxing lesson and a beat down.

But even then people were like "if he just lost a couple more pounds" he could clean out the division.
Then he went the other way, stacked it on and was still pretty awesome, imagine he hadnt.

Toney-Jirov was a great fight - up there with the best I've ever seen in the cruiserweight division.

Both of them would beat Mormeck and Haye

Most overrated "robbery" of recent times. If one guy is being pushed back repeatedly by punches, he isnt going to win close rounds.

It was a great fight indeed. Sadly, Jirov was ruined after this.

He had a good fight with Moorer a couple years later, he was winning easiliy until he got caught and knocked out late in the fight.

I really enjoyed this fight, but I found it really hard to give Jirov rounds. I mean he was there punching his heart out, but he was so ineffective compared to Toney. One solid punch from toney seemed to do more than 10 shots from Jirov.

Some people ringside were complaining of **** scoring but I thought Toney won a wide, hard faught decision.
