Who wins in this match-up?Hill featured good movement which could trouble Toney but Toney was more multi-skilled then Hill.I think Hill's biggest strength was that he always stayed with-in his game plan and never tried to alter/fight with another style.
I think Hill would win by split decision over Toney but Hill would have to be at his absolute best.

Hill had extremely underrated power when he chose to stop being so by the book.

    He iced Kinchen in one.

Remember what Hearns vs. Kinchen looked like?

Toney doesn't like movement, but I still think he's just too skilled for Hill. at 175 I could see this playing out a bit like Toney's fights with Griffin, Hill moving and making Toney come to him, a role he doesn't like playing.

Virgil could keep it close, but I'd take Toney say 116-112. Plus you have to remember that Toney never really fought a strong fight at 175. Not his best weight. Hill never fought at 168, a weight at which the Toney that beat Barkley would probably win more easily against Hill.

At Cruiserweight I'd take Toney to stop him late. The version of Toney that beat Adolpho Washington was aggressive and sharp. I think he'd walk through Hill and get him late.

yea i can imagine the virgill hill as the soft spoken underdog, but to he was would have given problems similar to michael nunn.

nunn i thought had beeter hands speed and head movement but hills legs and ring generalship i thought where better and he had a tough hide when he needed it like when he took a hard fights against dariusz and mormeck.

im going for the underdog and i think hill beats toney in a close decision, but taking many of the rounds by using his good legs which never seemed to fail him even at 40!

Much praise should go to Virgil Hill for his consistancy, and always being a good, clean, and skilled boxer.

At Lightheavyweight I like Virgil Hill. Mostly because 175 was not a good weight for James Toney. At Cruserweight I like Toney. It was a good weight for him and Hill is an old man at this weight.
    I think a 168 Toney could beat a 175 Hill in a catchweight bout.

Another vote for Hill via decision.

I think that good jab and lateral movement is the key to victory. toney is nowhere near as effective whenever he has to use his footwork to chase a guy down. Hill will jab and turn him all night & won't take any chances in an exchange.

    Hill UD

Stylistically, Hill has all of the tools to beat him. Movement and a quick jab.

I can see Hill winning a decision as well.
