This has probably already been a thread, so sorry if it is..

But what's everyone's opinion on James Toney going into MMA?

If he wins it was probably good idea because I believe the publicity will open him a new opportunities in boxing.

There will be no open arms welcoming him back to boxing, when Randy Couture beats his fat ass to the gorund.

Good luck James, do boxing proud

Good Luck but James has no chance if he can't land a punch before Coutoure wrestles him to the ground.

JT will be tapping out within the first two minutes of this fight and that's a stone cold lock.

My opinion is he's desperate, if not for money then just to be in the spotlight, and he's almost certainly going to get murdered. I don't know much about MMA or the guy he's fighting but I do know he's a trained wrestler so is almost certainly take him down and make him submit to something. Toney would have to catch him with a KO punch before he's able to take him off his feet to win.

Seems to be the trend these days... when you can't make it in boxing anymore, which is a much more refined sport, then you turn to MMA. I think it's a ridiculous and desperate move for any boxer to make quite frankly. They're all just making an ass of themselves.

Better than seeing him fight tomato can heavyweights at 40+yo I guess.

Now he'll fight toughman competition runner ups in MMA.

This is the logical conclusion of Toney's career.

He's got fatter and fatter and lazier and lazier and now has heard that there's a sport where he can work laying down....

yeah, imo unless he can get full mount on Coutoure and use his weight to his advantage on the floor (which is very unlikely, as Coutoure specializes in wrestling) or gets a lucky punch in the first 30 seconds of the first round then he's beat easily.

Once he's done at MMA he should go into stand-up comedy, probably his best bet for a career.
