moron. Do you throw Holyfields whole career down the trash too? He was working with lee haney an I assure you Lee wasnt there for bench press tips. Not too mention all your heavies going back to the late 60's were dabbling I gurantee you. Yet yu give toney flack for it. I don't get into drug talk against fighters cause 90 percent have are on. Including your boy in your avatar
I can't even understand how people discredit the Jirov win. Beat sam peter once, beat rahman, beat john ruiz, I already said he had losses an it happens when you fight as many times as Toney does, you're fighting frequently you drop. His career outshines Hopkins easy.P4p Toney is greater.
2003 Holyfield win is on the same level as Calzaghe's win over Jones, except Calzaghe wasn't roided to his back teeth and atleast Jones was coming off a win.
No not even close. Holyfield was way more dangerous for toney but you're clearly being biased. Toney was about as roided as your boy in your avatar. You say you didnt wanna get into drug talk cause Your favorite mexican is juiced out of his eye balls for his biggest win. Jirov was a bum? Sam peter? Hopkins did **** at middle an his career moment was ****ing tarver.
Michael Nunn Mike McCallum Reggie Johnson Vasiliy Jirov Iran Barkley Tim Littles Charles Williams Tony Thornton Merqui Sosa That's a pretty nice resume, but i think Hopkins is a nice bit better.
He got robbed in the first McCallum fight. Completely outfought him down the stretch and had him ready to go in the 12th.
That Jirov win was fantastic. Trying to discredit that win is revisionist history. Jirov was legitimately one of the best cruisers in the world, undefeated Olympic gold medalist in his prime, with a style that has always given Toney fits...and Toney schooled and outfought him.
Amazing fighter, one of my favourites. Great inside game, concrete chin and would fight anyone, even heavyweights in the pocket while being a fat, lazy, old guy. He has some losses and questionable decisions but he had many fights. His lack of dedication is tragic because the talent was undoubtedly there. I heard the only thing he did in training was spar... crazy. But wins over Nunn, McCallum and Johnson are brilliant and the fact he fought heavyweights toe to toe beggers belief. I think he has the better wins than Hopkins, but as a whole I'm not sure you can rank him higher.
Hopkins = ATG Toney = Solid HOF fighter with some top wins, and a lot of questions surrounding his career (steroids) and how good he could have been Whereas Hopkins is a consensus top 50 ATG fighter, Toney isn't anywhere near there
There's always one win on a fighters resume that his fans try to make into a monster win, for Hopkins it's Echols for Calzaghe it's normally Veit (well i've seen some people attempt to put it that way ) and for Toney it's Jirov who's looked back on as some sort of 'great' CW.
How about Toney's heavyweight run? He deserves credit for the Holyfield, Rahman, Peter and Ruiz fights. I do not think Hopkins would have performed as well as Toney as a heavyweight.
