i dont know how much it matters because he seems to train himself , his discipline at the buffet table hurts him most, i think an ex fighter he has respect for may be able to get him on track, he doesnt need a technician
Roach on the radio the other day mentioned that you can see Pacquiao and Toney training if you get a membership at his gym, so I'm thinking that he's training Toney or at least working with him in some capacity.
What I would like to know iS what happened to the trainer that originally taught Toney, Bill Miller?? Has he passed away? I wish someone would still teach Toney's style to younger upcoming fighters. I am sick of the one two fighters.
Toney is being trained by Steve Suluki now. Suluki was also his trainer for the Rahman II fight. Toney was im reasonable shape for that fight. I think it was the appropriate move for Toney. In several bouts under Freddie Roach, Toney was out of shape. That is also the responsibility of the trainer as it is his job to get his fighter into good physical shape for a fight.
I think he is still alive. He is around 87 years. He gave a comment a few years back that he still has regular contact with Toney. He is also said the Toney could have been one of the greates of alltime if he had kept him as a trainer. The reason is that Toney did learn his things pretty well but then he stopped learning.
According to a recent press report Thompson wants to return in January or early February. I can only hope that Goossen Tutor reschedules the fight early next year.
If Thompson comes back in January or early February, it is way too soon for Toney. He should wait to early march and fight against Toney. Actually if Thompson fights that soon, it seems to me that he doesnt even want to fight against Toney.
Well, I do not think it is too soon for either guy. Toney does not have a lot of time and he needs a big victory very fast. 2 victories against Thompson and Oquendo in a short period time will certainly grant Toney yet another crack at the title. In addition, Toney won't put on a lot of weight between the Thompson and Oquendo fights.
