What are peoples thoughts on Cox - he does seem like a bit of an enigma doesn't he? Since this Super Series tournament has popped up, most seem to think Groves will breeze past him... but I've heard a few whispers that people shouldn't be sleeping on Cox. Is he the dark horse? Many people in boxing circles really rate him, I've heard the sparring stories... there's footage of him giving Esquiva Falcao a real hiding & dropping him, apparently he's handled Degale & there was that tweet when he was out sparring at Mayweathers gym prior to Floyd v Pac that had suggested he knocked Badou Jack out... Falcao sparring - This content is protected Badou Jack - This content is protected But then you have the periods of inactivity, him previously campaigning a light-middle and the infamous robbery against Obodai Sai.... from what I've seen of him over the years he seems either lethal or very messy. Paddy Fitzpatrick has worked with both Groves and Cox in the past, when the Groves fight was announced his words were that "Cox will be licking his lips at this fight". However Groves did have first pick and knows all about Cox from the amateur days, so he obviously fancies the job.. plus he's the naturally bigger man? Potential banana skin for Groves whereby Cox has his coming out party? Or does Groves retain his title and push on?
Head to head in Monaco groves looked huge compared to him and haven't seen a lot cox but groves has fought at much higher level for long time
He's fought nobody of any note and isn't really a super middleweight (like Eubank, Murray, Abraham's etc) so to fight a big lad like Groves who's a world class operator, he's going to have to be skilful enough to work his way inside around that great jab of Groves. I don't think he's good enough to do that.
Prior to Taylor fight I'd have had him a live underdog but I thought he was very very poor in that. He does blow hot and cold and can punch a bit but can't see past Groves beating him
Cox is very good , definitely a live underdog... unfortunate he got the favourite and most proven fighter in the 1st round though
T This is it really... What has Cox ever done or what can we even say about the guy that would suggest he can beat gg. Theres a reason gg picked cox at first dibbs.
I'm not privy to sparring of course but I've never got the hype. He looks alright, but...I've not seen anything more than that
he is good was used in Brooks camp vs spence, brook handled him well so against people who can move and have a good educated jab will do well against him. I rate his chances high against Groves but groves jab will be to good for cox and bring a points win.
If Cox really did KO Badou Jack in sparring then it could be quite possible that he's better than anyone expects. I just hope Cox turns up and makes it a good scrap.
