Poor performance last night, weak face that cuts easily, no defense and no real punching power. I was hoping he'd be the next big thing out of Ireland but he was very poor.
Deserved the win imo and was a great learning fight for him, the lad he fought was the type of jorneyman you get in the states he came to win and was a big puncher . Jamie proved he had a good chin and showed some good movement he is still only 21 and has lots to learn. Even though he didnt win he will take much more from that fight than fighting some Latvian bum .
I thought he won as well. I gave him rounds 2,3,4&6. Round 2 was close so I can see how that one flipped to Gil. Overall it was disappointing and highlighted the flaws in Jamies game which let's be honest weren't hard to spot. However he is young and got caught with a head in the first that shook him up and opened a deep gash and then he broke his hand in the second and despite that he improved as the fight went on. There will be question marks over his progression now and I hope Roach can actually start to get involved in his training now instead of just using him as a sparring partner.
Collins comments about him maybe needing more time with Roach were right if that's true. He fights far to loose in range and his work doesn't have the substance it should have. Punches land but are they hurting opponent or gaining respect? i think he got a bit lucky Gil tired and didn't work through to the finish. He's talented but needs to display more to progress.
I thought he won the fight and to be fair he showed abit of grit in there. As said earlier he wil learn more from this fight than he will stopping a Latvian binman inside a round. Though for a fella who spars Pacquaio and Khan on regular basis you would think that he would have a better defence. He needs to work on that and maybe some sessions with Ariza might help him develop his power.
