people hate on Sky for not showing this but at least they still show boxing. where are the terrestrial channels? the BBC shows all sorts of sports but it wont touch boxing? even if they aried the occasitional big fight that wasn't picked up by sky or box nation it would be something.

The BBC's reasons for ditching boxing are well known. They've chosen the space they want to play in, so there's no point complaining about it.

No one is hating on Sky for this, it's just disappointing that a genuine world title fight is going out on a shitty specialist channel when Burns is fighting a truly mediocre opponent on Sky.

If McDonnell wins then someone may pick up the rights to a delayed broadcast.

It's not just as simple a case as Hobson being greedy; Hearn wasn't exactly generous either. And you can't blame Hearn. If you held the keys to the Sky Sports shop window you wouldn't want to share it with another promoter for a top of the bill fight unless you were getting an exceptionally good deal out of it.

Hearn/Hayemaker is a different kettle of fish. With the clout Haye brings to the Matchroom stable Hearn wasn't holding all the aces and was happy to give and take. Whereas Hearn can treat Hobson on a like-it-or-lump-it basis, as that's his prerogative right now with the power Sky have given him.

  10. Judging by the responses on this thread - the demand appears to be the same as asking people for £10 to watch Juventus v Notts County on a black and white TV.

That actually happened in 1993 when they played each other in the Anglo Italian Cup on my grandad's TV. In Norwich.

Hobson should definitely have just done a paid stream and made it far cheaper, cutting out primetime parasites too, paying 11 quid to watch a British prospect untested at world level take on a world champion Mexican KO artist makes as much sense as wiping your arse with cling film.

  15. Everybody on here should be mate. I know its a pain in the hole being on ppv with those wankers Crimetime but its McDonnell's first world title fight and well deserved one as well.

I remember when i first saw the kid fight on the British part of the Hatton/Mayweather card when he fought Chris Edwards for the British Super Flyweight title. Sky did a little intro feature on him talking about how he was a good looking tall talented 21yr old who had serious potential. After Edwards beat him i thought "Meh" then when he lost his next fight against Haskins i thought for sure he'd just fade into obscurity but the lad really turned it around winning the next 12 starts picking up British, Commonwealth & Euro honors, beating good men like Jamoye, Hall & Napa all while looking a seriously improved fighter.

I think most of us here have watched this progression and it would be a shame for us to turn away now right at the time of reckoning over a measly 11 quid. Most won't even bother streaming as they'll be busy watching Burns.

Its a shame man, McDonnell deserves our support.
