Frank has always been the highest paying promoter & that's why the vast majority stay loyal to him and BN. He's a risk taker which is why BN exists - the kind who will put his hand in his pocket and invest in a fighter who in the long term should bring home the bacon even if it means taking a loss. I don't know how much he paid Butler for the shot but I know its definitely more then what McDonnell got the other week. Hearn sticks to a budget provided by sky and there is no way that budget is going to be able to pay Butler all that money. The offer is BS and a response to frank 'offering' McDonnell the fight earlier which was also BS as he knew that Hearn wouldn't allow him to fight on BN.
It's also the reason he ends up putting business into liquidation. Paying above the odds and ****ing your business up isn't something to proud of.
They haven't stayed loyal to him, hes lost more fighters than even this past year or two, Burns, Groves, Mitchell, Paul Smith etc. Your blaming Hearn for the fact that Frank won't let his fighters fight on another channel even though hes offering Butler a massive amount of money? How is that Hearn's fault or BS from him? Eddie did say Boxnation or Sky he doesn't care where the fight is. You also seem to be praising Frank for the fact hes doing bad business but the profile's of his fighters are complete ****. On twitter which is a decent measurable BN's fighters have no followers at all and thats a big deal because these fighters rely on sponsors to support them a lot of the time and they need big twitter followings to be able to build their 'brand'.
I know where you are coming from, i struggle to see how he manages to pay such fees to fighters but he does. My estimation was right by the way. Been told he was paid about 35k plus tickets so about 40k. ****** offered Curtis Woodhouse 70k to fight Saunders not long ago. Good money getting thrown about. 70k for defending a British??? Unheard of at Matchroom thats for sure
I said the vast majority of fighters not all - Grovers was never really a ****** fighter just fought on the station..your forgetting Derry Mathews went the other way and he did that for money- why else would he leave when Hearn has got most of the lightweights for him to potentially face.. I admire Frank for having the cojones to start BN - it's a station that personally I never would thought was possible but I'm damn sure thank full he created it...on Saturday I was sat on my fast ass watching boxing from 7pm until about 5am th next morning - heaven. I also admire Hearn for the freshness he has brought to the game for example Wembley was fantastic for the game. I'm not really sure what Frank can do to boost his fighters twitter followers - Surely that's down to them. Unlike Hearn he doesn't block his kids from going on shows like ringside an he's always been one to encourage them to get there faces about. in relation to bad business I'm not sure why it bothers you how he runs his business- if BN closes one day it closes - also I'm sure the board of directors who include one of the top guys from BT sport are watching closely plus a hard nosed business man like Bill Ives isn't going to let his investment get flushed down the toilet easily.
Derry Matthews is the only one and that was because he was paid great money but hes hardly a big name. Frank's their promoter so i guess promoting them and getting their brand bigger is definitely up to him and that includes things like twitter. Its so important to get silly things like that up and build a following for these fighters so they can let their fans know when the fights on, sell tickets and get the to watch on TV I think Eddie probably could let his fighters go on Boxnation and im not sure why he doesn't. I think there is a lack of trust. For boxing it will be bad if Frank goes out of business in a big way, TV execs aren't exactly going to be scrambling to get Boxing onto their channel if it doesn't make money. I think BT sport will pick up some boxing down the line regardless but thats only because they are in a war with Sky. Ultimately ****** should accept this deal for Butler even if its on Sky, its an amazing offer, Butler's twitter shows hes excited about it.
Aye Hearn alluded to this in am interview not long before Joshua and Campbell were signed up, mentioned they could get more elsewhere (ie FW and BN) but they'd get a better profile with him and his business is more financially sound as we don't live in a time where someone like degale got a £1m bonus for signing after the Olympics.in fact I wouldn't be shocked if the Hennessy fighters who are the stars in c5 (fury, Galahad and formerly degale) got paid more than their matchroom counterparts, degale was meant to be getting 6 figures for those bluewater fights
They leave because they get a far bigger profile on sky, george groves is the poster boy for that As for twitter, a few days after derry Mathews last fight someone tweeted him asking when he's fighting gethin and got the **** took out of him, thing is that pretty much showed that a fighter becomes largely irrelevant when they fight on BN
All it will show is that the uk doesn't have the fan base for a boxing channel, especially with the cost base of boxing and one that doesn't have a massive profile on other networks like sky sports does. Itv will have a big hole in their sports budget so they could get back involved, bt sport already show some BN content so could feast on their carcass
Highest paying promoter, your having a laugh, sure Joe Calzaghe won a court case for £1.8m that ******s company never paid him. What your meant to get paid and what you actually get paid are two completely different things. Matchroom pay what they can afford, and that is what fighter is 100% of the money the fighter is owed
Calzaghe is one case and It was settled in the end privately. Calzaghe has sat ringside next to frank at his shows on 2 or 3 occasions in recent occasions - I doubt he would do that f he was owed 1 million + Go and ask the likes of BJS, Mathews, Tom Stalker, Gavin etc who's the best paying promoter
I'm very impressed with butler but he looks like a guy who should fight at flyweight for the majority of his career. But if he gets 200k for this fight there's no way he should turn it down , although McDonnell is a lot too big for him and will win I think butler should stay at flyweight it's a stacked division and he can give it a lot of publicity . And Britain and Ireland have a lot of talented flyweights ,Jamie and Michael conlon, paddy Barnes, Andrew selby. If he can make the division more popular he might make the money worthwhile for these guys to turn over
