Jamie McDonnell vs. Stuart Hall & Tony Jeffries vs. Paul Morby RBR

Ok! First up is the super middleweight 8-rounder between undefeated puncher Tony Jeffries (moving down from light heavyweight after racking up 8 wins and a draw with six knockouts) and southpaw bill-payer Paul Morby with a perfectly level record of 6-6-1.

Round 1

Jeffries walks Morby down and drills him with the pinpoint lead right hand to the face, clearly savvy how to deal with a non-engaging southpaw. Morby grabs and casts off, spoiling a bit. Jeffries lands a 1-2 to the sides of the neck as Morby ducks in to clinch. Morby holding and hitting Jeffries below the armpits. More hugging and hitting after a short break. Jeffries keeps coming forward and getting Morby's sticky arms pressed all over him while trying to fix a hard right uppercut on the bottom of his chin.

Round 2

Jeffries gets Morby roaming back to the ropes with his jab and lead right hand alternately menacing with about even accuracy. Morby is tucking his chin and slumping down to roll with shots rather than avoid them outright as he lacks the upper body or foot speed to do so consistently. Morby rotates out a few projector-crank right jabs while sliding backward. Morby is nearly trapped on the ropes and lunges forward with his arms held out in parallel as buffers to try and grab Jeffries from the sides. Jeffries is landing single jabs to the face and rights across the nape of the neck as Morby keeps curling up and rolling into him. Many short clinches.

Round 3

Jabs and rights from Jeffries, not tinkering with the proven. BEAUT of a right hand snaps Morby's head back. Round-the-rink skateboarding and frequent grabbing with rubber-wrist clasps below the arms from Morby. Jeffries keeps working the 1-2 and chases Morby into the ropes. Morby bounces off and leaps forward with a pair of looping lefts that land before he grabs hold again.

Round 4

Jeffries blows some blood out of his nose by holding one side shut with his thumb. Ick.

Big 1-2 by Jeffries bangs Morby into the ropes before he pitches forward to clinch. Jeffries misses a high-inclined right hand but then lowers his follow up 1-2-1 to land on the chin as Morby slides along the length of the ropes. Right hooks to the body in the clinch by Morby, landing with the bottom of his fists (below the pinky) doing no damage but scoring. Jeffries keeps squared up to the mobile Morby with quick legs, but is only intermittently landing his 1-2 and finding even the connections are rolled with and not delivering full effect.

Round 5

Good exploratory jab to the face by Jeffries. Morby is lining up lead lefts to the chin and landing well while creeping forward with his arms held out to grab. Nice body work now by Jeffries, doubling up a heavy left hook down low. Time out. Cut on Jeffries. Accidental headbutt is the ruling. Jeffries corners Morby feinting with his jab but has Morby wedged under his arm when he extends it. Lots of clinching now. Ugly stuff. 1-2 by Jeffries snapped out and just missing as Morby ducks and runs. Now Morby is caught with a right cross as he runs out of room and circles into the ropes. Morby is ducking and surfacing now as he circles, up and down to keep Jeffries throwing at different planes. Clinch. Jeffries tosses out his jab while chasing but not within the zone as Morby books it.

50-45 Jeffries

 

Tommy Brooks is giving good advice in the corner, telling Jaffa to calm the hell down and let it come easy.

Something has the kid all wound up.

Is it illegal for Brooks to brew him a nice chai latte to fill his water bottle? :think

 

Round 6

Jeffries is still gunning hard for the KO, racing after Morby and throwing the big 1-2. He is now throwing the hook Brooks was asking for behind it, but not waiting until he's actually landing the 1-2 to do so. Jeffries is landing the very tips of some jabs but not touching Morby with his power. Morby for his part is just completely negative but for the odd lead left when backing completely out of the inside exchanges (where Jeffries is landing that hard left hook to the body).. A couple of good short chopping rights to the cheek by Jeffries as he gets Morby trapped.
