    From the WBC convention....

Bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka: Is facing two mandatories in a row. First up will be current WBC Silver champion Abner Mares (who also holds the IBF title) followed by the winner of Hugo Cazares and James McDonnell.

Now I don't see Mares fighting the Jap, he'll probably go for a more familiar name but when was Cazares/McDonnell ordered?!

This is what the WBC convention is all about getting your name out there wheeling and dealing. Well done Frank Maloney if so. I know Big Dave Price is at the convention at the moment.

Cazares will lose his advantages here as McDonnell is bigger.

    Very interesting fight IMO.

Thought Mcdonnell was fighting Bouziane in Donacaster in February??

Good luck to Mcdonnell, i see him as fringe world class, he's improving with every fight.

  5. I'm not sure Maloney will take this.

It wouldn't surprise me to see them look an easier route of becoming a mandatory than having to beat a genuinely world class opponent.

Cazares-McDonnell would be a great fight, I think I would go if it was on a good date in a decent venue. Would be great to see a world class Mexican 2 weight champions in the flesh.

McDonnell ain't all that but Cazares has always been drastically overrated.

McDonnell's not near world class yet IMO. That said, for me he will handle Cazares easily. I've been over Hugo before, certain people(Greg) overrated him to a laughable degree despite having really not done much of note at 118lbs aside from razor-thin fights against Nashiro, and at light fly he pulled a Segura and only really achevied success because of his size.

He has zero jab and probably no advantage in size coming into this. Average fighter at world level, war McDonnell!
