i didn't realise that just because this is an Australian forum, we are not allowed to make negative comments about Australian boxers. if you are going to be bias all the time, you can **** off. your comments are not worth reading.
Fair enough, i was wrong. Although i haven't seen the fight, Sturm obviously performed better then he has in recent times.
One thing though, is that a lot of people in the general forum, good posters at that, were also picking Jamie to get up. It wasn't like it was only Aus forum guys guilty of over rating, like you were trying to make out. Pittmans style, plus Sturms recent extremely poor form, pointed to the fact that he was a very live under dog. Anyway, he put up a great fight apparently, good on him for putting it all out there. Who knows how much the closed eye from the headbutt bothered him, i haven't seen the fight yet to tell.
I thought he actually fought ok up until the 7th considering his cut and obvious disadvantage in experience. He never seemed intimidated by Sturm, and threw back everytime Sturm backed him up. I feel as if people are saying he got totally outclassed, but I didn't think that was the case, yes KO'd, but he did hold his own for a while considering. Maybe I need to watch the fight a few more times, just my opinion. MSTR - Whole fights up on youtube now if you hadn't already sussed it :good
I think that the eye definitely bothered him. Sturm was still the better fighter, but he started fighting worse and worse with every round as the eye closed up. Pretty much the same time his defense started to open up as well. You could physically see him turning away from punches in the latter rounds due to his impaired vision... I think as a young fighter he found it particularly discouraging, and didn't really know how to deal with it. Pittman just didn't possess the power to actually do any sort of damage through the guard of Sturm with his straight punches. Would have like to have seen him throwing more punches from angles and more looping punches over the high guard of Sturm. More combinations as well, which is essential against someone who is using a very high guard like Sturm. I think he really felt the difference in this fight going from a regional/journeyman level pace, to fighting at a world class pace. He seemed to run out of steam fairly quickly... Despite all this, he didn't look out of place, and he didn't seem totally outclassed by any means. He fought well overall, and i am sure it will give him some things to work on.
I thought Pittmans effort was 10/10!!! He tried to box his fight and was doing well untill the butt happened. He needs to fight at a higher level from now on to keep improving. But he should stay away from Geale for another year then go after him.
