Martin is live underdog in this fight. Both only have 1 notable win each on their resumes ( if you can even call them notable) but the difference is Ortiz win was over 5 years ago.

Martin walks to the ring like a god and puts on a boxing masterclass.

Grandma Ortiz defends Deontay's honour and defeats the paper champion that the bodybuilder Joshua beat when he won that phony IBF belt!

this is the only allure of the fight: who the hell wins it. i can't call it. the ko of washington has some recency bias towards Martin, even though I think Ortiz is the superior fighter.

it has no real bearing on the division. somehow, it won't affect either guy's legacy no matter who wins. if martin wins ortiz is old and shot. if ortiz wins, martin was already one of the most maligned hw belt holders ever and he got beat by a good southpaw with power who had 2 good outings against Wilder.

i guess if they give us a crazy FOY like Derrick Jefferson vs Maurice Harris that'll add to their legacies. but in terms of one guy being rated higher bc he beats the other... shrug.

ok, gonna go with Ortiz by KO essentially bc I think Jennings was a better fighter when Ortiz beat him than Washington was when Martin beat him. i'm just guessing though.

    Ortiz wins by decision.

Hopefully this isn't a final eliminator.

Trying so hard now to laugh at the Idea this is PPV.

Who going to buy, cmon seriously.

Edit: $40 PPV instead of 80. More reasonable if the Undercard is good.

I'm late in giving my opinion here, but here I go...

The mostly likely outcome for this fight is...

...that it doesn't happen at all.

Anything scheduled fight involving Mike Borao & Warrior Promotions is a very speculative proposition.

But I'll suspend my disbelief for a moment...

I think Luis Ortiz by TKO within 3 rounds.

No two ways about it - Luis Ortiz is old. I'd be very surprised if that man has any birthdays left that begin with the number "4". Even if I look past the likelihood that the man's urine could probably dissolve chromemoly steel plate - it's not reasonable to expect Ortiz to provide more than 4 rounds or so of high output.

    So why pick him?

Martin is a plodder and is astonishingly easy to hit. And he makes no use of the angles that a southpaw should have available to him.

All of the above are bad enough, but Martin's biggest flaw is that he's an incredibly slow starter.

Even if you throw out his non-showing against Joshua...your'e left with his fights against Glazkov, Washington, Kownacki, Crobin...even freakin' Daniel Martz (!) where Charles did virtually nothing for 2-3 rounds. That you absolutely cannot do against Ortiz, you wanna be moving and touching him all the time. Throw in a guy like Frank Sanchez against Ortiz - it's almost a sure thing that Sanchez would win.

I do think that the advantage will gradually swing to Martin's advantage after 4,5, or 6 rounds - but it seems very unlikely to me the fight goes that long. Ortiz knows he has limited time to work with - and he will use that time well. Based on his history, Martin seems likely to let him.

Agree with this, except for the contention that Martin is any good. He isn't and he doesn't take a very good punch either. That said, Ortiz IS ancient - likely far older than advertised - and therefore he could fall off a cliff at any moment and get beat by a second-tier guy like Martin.

And, most definitely agree it's an intriguing fight, well worth buying. I know I will!

I'd disagree a little bit with your assessment of Martin (mind you, this is from a guy who is decisively picking Ortiz)...

Martin has pretty good power on his shots...he just doesn't throw them until about Round 4. So Ortiz is just all/completely/totally wrong for him.

He got shelled by Joshua and stopped, yes, but he took lots of heavy shots from Kownacki. Other than that, we haven't got much to judge his chin by because he hasn't fought many big hitters or those fights were uneventful.

He was a decent fighter when he was still in his late 40s-early 50's.
