Toney by late knock out, ala Barkley.
Toney is far more skilled of the two, and has better chin

I don't know. Toney didnt fight that many times at light heavyweight and didn't look terribly impressive in some of the showings he had there. Most of the guys he beat at 175 were eigher washed up, not very good to begin with or former middleweights themselves.

That's true, TBH. Toney looked better as SMW, he wasn't motivated in most of his LHW fights

I'm leaning towards Kovalev by a decision. I can't see James getting stopped.

Yeah, if Kovalev can't/won't stop old Hopkins, he's not stopping Toney, unlikely he'd stop Toney anyway.

^ I think that was more a case of won't stop Hopkins. Still Toney's chin is unreal I can't pick a winner until after I see the Pascal fight.

Could have been - but the overall point is that stopping Hopkins might have given cause for pause.

James has gotta be one of the most durable or at least hard to stop fighters of all time. He had 90 professional fights through the age of 45, fought in five weight classes and took on a myriad of either highly skilled or hard punching men and still not one stoppage loss.

I think he gave the dude a bit too much respect. He could probably have stopped Bernard had he wanted too.

    And in any round.

The way Bernard fought, I think he knew that too, and from the KD onwards, fought solely to avoid being KO'd.

Agreed. Kovalev was holding back. But I still think a young James Toney could survive to the cards.. Dude was like a *-**roach.. Nuclear bomb could land and he'd still survive.

    Hopkins got carried!

Look at what Kov did when he turned it up in the 12th. He battered Hopkins all over the ring. No chance Hopkins survives 36 minutes of that.

Toney too skilled for Kovalev, Toney would counter him all night long, and win a decision no problem....

Kovalev tried like hell to KO Hopkins, in the 12th round he was swinging for the fences, if he can't KO a 50 year old man who's got the ring wear of 26-27 years in the sport, he ISN'T GONNA stop Toney..

How in the hell is Kovalev gonna beat Toney????? He's too slow, and he sure as hell isn't gonna outbox him
