Given his age and promotional backing id say yes Is he good enough to be a legit champ, best in the division and a power player long term, I'm not certain on that I think he has plenty of upside but am not convinced he fully pans out
He is so far overrated it isn’t funny. His mental state does not appear to be stable. I wonder if he is still fighting in a couple of years.
He's an American with a lot of promotional backing so he'll be guaranteed an easy route to the title.
I thought he was going to veer off into the crowd and get lost when his race car helmet shield fogged up. Being overly cautious against a guy who is so cautious he was throwing like four punches a round isn’t a good look for ‘the next big thing.’
The template is there, set by the PBC. Just match him like they did Wilder. Wait for the top three to retire, then if they can snag a belt, the gravy train will start to roll until they cash him out in a big fight
Seemed like a good prospect at the time but when I saw him crying actual tears to Roy Jones I knew it was all over.
He was defensively poor against Prince Chuckles Martin and in the fight against the belgian bloke he was offensively poor - seemed to have no gears to go through to break him down and no punch variety at all. If he ever gets a world title in he future it will be a testament to how poor the HW is at that point .
The fact that he is the best American HW really shows how far the sport has fallen in the U.S. And yes there have been down periods in the past, but there's no one on the horizon either.
I think he will win a vacant belt if he can stay out of trouble (big if considering the last 6-12 months), he's got a promotion and television network behind him. The guys has talent, but his mental state, his defensive issues and the interviews he gives throw up a lot of red flags. He seems like he is a crazy person and no one commentating on ESPN wants to address that elephant.
I'd say a fight with Makhmudov would be a good learning fight for him. A guy with fierce power and lowly boxing skills
