Watched this fight this morning on Sky and it was a decent fight for those who missed it. Jared Anderson looks a KO waiting to happen for me and too small at present but he is only 23 with plenty of time for growth. Charles Martin actually looks nothing like the coward who was paid to turn up at the O2 and dive at the earliest opportunity. He actually looks like he could plant someone when he lets his hands go. Worth a watch.
I struggle to make sense of this, that Anderson is too small. The current unified champion is probably slightly shorter in height than Anderson (I say probably because Anderson looked more than an inch shorter than Martin) and weighs around 20 pounds less than Anderson. Then there's Andy Ruiz, who is a recent unified champion, who's much smaller than Usyk and Anderson, just much fatter.
Was surprised how small Anderson looked next to Martin at the face off. I know we moan about this heavyweight era but it’s going to be dreadful in 5 years.
Yeah I watched it yesterday morning too...Anderson is pretty poor, and I don't see him improving too much tbh! Martin was scared of AJ and his power, he was less scared of Anderson, especially after he got hit a few times and thought 'I can take these shots!'. Shockingly Martin nearly had him outta there in the mid rounds and the last round... Dubois is Andersons level (and that's not a compliment!)
no martin was just trying to look for way to go down he wasnt scared he was doing what he wanted to do for whatever reason that was to go down anderson is in world top 15
Usyk will always look human at heavyweight because of his size but he has far more skill and experience than Jared and would have toyed with Martin, AJ KO`d Martin and Ruiz stopped AJ nuff said.
That means that Anderson's skills are lacking, not his size. Boxing fans used to always say that if A beats B and B beats C that A doesn't necessarily beat C. I assume that you don't go along with that. Regardless, nobody can substantially claim that Anderson is too small when two of the last three unified world champions have been considerably smaller than him.
It means even a fantastic fighter like Usyk will look human at heavyweight and that you need to be as skilled as him to fight bigger men, skill that Jared severly lacked v a lower tier heavyweight.
I think martin gets downplayed a bit much due to the joshua fight. Hes a solid test for an upping coming fighter. Joshua was on his way to being a handful back then until he started trying to be a boxer. He got more success when he was mostly training his athletic attributes. Martin couldnt match them back then. Ended up making him look worse than he actually is. I think regarding anderson being too small. Its probably true. You really need to be very very good to be a smaller man and be succesful at heavyweight. Anderson with what i,ve seen is just good as opposed to being very very good like say usyk. Regarding ruiz....he was smaller in height....but he was anything but small weight wise. The one thing that caught hearn out when he made that match up. Usually weight slows you down. Ruiz a bit like fury in that hes an anomoly in that his hand speed was still very fast with his heavy weight which made him a bit of a handful. Never been as good since he lost some of the weight.
