I just caught up on his last fight and I feel like his lack of defense will catch him out against a fighter more his own size or a guy with elite level punching power. To be fair Ennis did take some solid punches from Villa who can hit so Ennis has shown his chin is not glass. But I'm still a bit concerned how hittable Ennis is and I don't think that's a recipe for longevity or success against bigger hitters or as I said fighters his own size.
He's not that good. He hardly fights, has fought mostly B-tier fighters, is a weight bully and has to low blow to win. He's given special privileges and fixes because he's got the American boxing powers backing him. On top of that, the boots fanboys love to say, "but he beat Villa!" . .. ... Who tf is Villa? Seriously, all Villa did was NARROWLY beat Rashidi Ellis, who himself is not that good and hasn't fought since the loss... and Villa's seemingly impressive KO ratio is against laundromat workers and cab drivers. He's lost or looked shaky when he left the domestic Colombian circuit.
I'm not so sure TBH Ennis is basically a Middleweight fighting at Welterweight and he hasn't fought any real notable opposition as of yet. Ennis has been considerably bigger than all his opponents so far put him in the ring with someone of similar size who can hit then let's see how his chin holds up with that lack of defence. I do like watching Ennis fight he is exciting don't get me wrong but that lack of defence isn't going to serve him well at the elite level.
This is what I'm saying. We really don't know how good he really is because the powers that be stack everything in his favor. What happens when he fights someone his size?
This thread proves that the boxing community are fans of boxers not boxing. Boots rolls with his punches very well and put defense on the backburner to knock a fighter out he did not respect. What do you guys want
After some of your baffling takes and threads on this forum I don't think you have any right to call me out on my opinion. There is nothing wrong with anything I've said Ennis is a Middleweight fighting at Welterweight which is true. Hes been the considerably bigger man in every fight and has yet to fight any real notable opposition which is also true. Is Ennis talented ? Yes but he gets hit far too often and against elite level opposition or someone his own size I don't think he will be able to get away with it as much with his lack of defense.
> says the boxing community are fans of boxers not boxing > proceeds to fanboy over a particular boxer youre projecting, bruv.
This has been said and discussed in depth on multiple platforms but there are always his diehards that come in justifying it. I saw Dulorme, Lipinets, Villa, and now Avaneysan touch Boots way too often for me to label his defense anywhere near elite. And vs Avaneysan, he was throwing an abundance of his shots with all his power and Avaneysan was taking them for 4.5 rounds and still coming forward. He claims he does everything better than Crawford but I've yet to see him adjust and take a different approach. Crawford's IQ is his most dangerous tool in the ring. It's what makes fighters forget how strong, quick, and sharp he is. If Boots has this same skill set....why is he not able to showcase this vs the level of competition he's faced. You shouldn't need a top opponent to show those things.
Are you similarly concerned with the frequency with which Bud takes punches? Or Canelo? Or Roberto Duran? Fighters that fight, get hit.
I think Boots relies too much on his athleticism and reaction time to dodge punches. He sometimes misjudges the distance and doesn’t roll his shoulder far enough to cover his chin too. Boots has a tendency to leave himself squared because of all of his switching, being squared in the Philly shell makes you a sucker for a straight right which is what Ava hit him with far too often. Boots’ inside game also seems to be very lacking, he was the much bigger man against Ava yet still allowed him to walk him back and rough him up. Boots is still young though, so I think he’ll have time to correct some of these issues. Crawford’s defence was just as bad at Boots’ age but he’s improved leaps and bounds since.
