Someone said elsewhere that he gets hit just because hes being aggressive... this isnt true. Just rewatched parts of the Stanis fight and he gets caught multiple times while trying to box off the back foot. His defense is porous to say the least.
While his defense obviously isn't his strong point, I still don't think it's the end of the world for him. Look at guys like Crawford, Biev, Inoue, Taylor, and GGG for example. All of them made it to a high level despite them being pretty easy to tag clean and you rarely hear any heavy criticism about them. Boxers like Canelo and Bivol who can blend in defense and offense at the same time are pretty rare tbh.
Those guys didn't have the physical advantages Boots has, and it's the manner that they get hit. Getting hit flush while mistiming or misjudging an offensive manoeuvre is one thing, getting hit flush for no reason at all with your hands down or backing straight up like Boots does is another thing. There are excusable mistakes for offensive fighters, then there's just getting hit flush for no reason.
Ennis is incredibly athletically gifted. His biggest weakness you can say, is that he is a Philadelphia fighter through and through. Good point of comparison is Meldrick Taylor.
Inoue isn't easy to tag clean. On the plus minus stats (how often you hit vs get hit) only Shakur and Bivol are above him. He loses the least rounds out of the pfp guys too
Good fighter but nothing special from him that I have seen. He is a little like Spence in my eyes and Spence was better in my opinion. Staniosis was a good win but nothing great. The rest of 147 is pretty weak too. He is fighting between a stack 140 and a stack 154. He even admitted it was getting hard to make 147 but he doesn’t want to move up yet. Don’t blame him, unifying 147 is very doable. With just Norman being a challenge. Barrios will be like a hot knife through butter. Now after he unify I think he needs to go up.
his defense needs to improve. last night he did get tagged to many times even though he didn't respect his opponent's power.
I think people going overboard it was understandable for Karen and Avanesyan but Stanionis was legit top 5 and he clipped boots a few times with some accurate shots but that's normal for these kind of fights no ? Ennis bad defense may be an illusion by high expectations
How can you say that when Boots defence leaves him more vulnerable than any top level boxer I can think Really good boxer but you can not say Ortiz is vulnerable without talking about Boots flaws in that department
